I want to do a hare scramble, but hurt my foot and can't do this weekend at MMX. I'm looking at Donner next month, because it's such a spectacular setting, but...umm...wow. Spending all day throwing my bike up rock faces doesn't sound all that fun. I can handle gnarly, but I don't really wanna suffer all day. I'd be riding Super Senior C (haven't raced since 2011). What is thing like?

Like you, I'm a little older and would love to try one of those. But also I don't want to be on some death march.
Usually, those sorts of events that cater to all classes have tougher sections for the more advanced riders and sections for mere mortals. I say give it a whirl and come back with a full report! smile smile smile smile

I've done it once and never again.
It was very rocky, loose rocky, and dry and dusty, which I don't enjoy.
The Lilli Put is the first weekend in November, a good event to get you started again.

Ski'd the hill .. delivered soda there ... never ridden on the dirt scooter. If I was still in the area I'd do it.

you can pull off if it gets too gnarly.
We won't make fun at all ... whistling

In this video, the AA winner looked more traumatized than happy. I can imagine that stack-up on the big rock face was not fun. The camera does no justice to the steepness, I am sure.
Overall, I'm thinking this might not be the event for me to get back in the swing of things. But other parts didn't look so bad. Maybe I'll go check it out for the first time. There is also the matter of jetting my RM250 for that altitude.

Imagine GNCC ruts, that will bring you to a complete stop, but instead of mud, its silt/dust. The rock sections aren't as hard as you'd think

The powdery stuff is just like mud- slick. There is a place near here called Chalk Bluff and I am pretty sure it's a reference to the dirt.

The Lilliputian looks a bit more mellow. It even has "putt" right in the title. laughing

I raced last year. It was pretty gnarly, worst part being the dust. The rocks were definitely challenging but there wasnt anything too crazy on the C loop. If you want a good challenge I’d say go for it, if not I’d say wait until Lilliputian at prairie city. Especially if you’re more of a moto guy.

The two Hare scrambles in Wilseyville (1.5hrs southeast of Sac) are bar none the funnest hare scramble in NorCal. Not sure the dates but usually end of Oct, early Nov.
