Not at all. Now that it has been pointed out, you can clearly see that he clips the yellow barrier on the inside of the corner and is ripped off the bike. Everyone would have gone down in that situation.
That's how I saw it as well.

It looked like he got a little cross rutted coming into the corner, but the yellow barrier was kinda in a bad spot, IMO.
Yes, they got to keep them from cutting the corner, but it certainly ripped Jessy off the bike. Here's a shot of how far out the barrier was and how close they were all getting to it.

Great deal.

I hope some guys start wearing good protection. My bull riding vest was the best thing i ever put on. It would need some mods for cooling maybe, but by god there was no way a peg or bull horn was going thru it.

Not sure how to post the stories from instagram. If you have the most up to date version its in the circles at the top of the home screen.

RacerX released this about a 1/2 hour ago:

According to the Troy Lee Designs team, Nelson is currently still in the hospital in Cooperstown, NY, where Wings For Life Spinal Cord Research Foundation is working directly with Jessy’s doctors. They have tentatively scheduled surgery for tomorrow.

x2. Sounds a bit more serious than a pinched nerve.

Were all praying for you Jessy!

I really hope everything works out. There's a link on the RacerX story to Road to Recovery where you can make a donation for Jessy. In addition to positive thoughts and prayers I figured it's one more way I can help out.

I'm getting conflicting stories on this. Surgery tomorrow but earlier it seemed that he was going to ultimately be ok?

What's the deal?

I was thinking the same thing. It sounded like it was just a pinched nerve and he's going to be fine, but now Wings for Life Spinal Research is working closely with his doctors and he has surgery upcoming?

Surgery still sounds normal to me. Pinched nerve can mean a bunch of things but the most important take home is that it is not synonymous with severed, which is positive. There may have some bone damage that must be addressed so that possible debris etc do not damage cord areas. A lot of people interpret inflammation issues as a "pinched nerve" not really knowing better. Understand, Im not privy to any other info than here, but still sounds within normal protocol for what it appears is going on.

Often times, swelling has affects that are unique because of the swelling, not actual damage. One of the reasons it is ideal to wait until the swelling goes down is becuase a more accurate assement of what real damage is or could be there and the best plan for success can be utilized during the surgery. Its kind of like not letting a head injury person go to sleep. It is so you can keep an accurate assement of what is going on and can only observe changes when they are awake. Not for the common misconception that you dont let them sleep because they may die. Small changes can be important.

Apparently this was earlier in moto 2. Reminds me a lot of Dungey's crash at TV this year.
Two head impacts in one moto. Brutal sport. Hoping for the best.
