So I ended up kneeling to the KTM gods and buying the motorex 10w50 and KTM filter from the dealer today. $28 out the door. Not bad. Oil change tomorrow.

So for instance this is $9 a quart at Walmart. Would this be acceptable to run in the KTM??

Been running this in my raptor 700’s for years. This or amsoil was recommended to me over anything else by cuervo racing

Interesting how everyone mentions that they change the oil every 5 hours 90 minutes etc.. I used to read these forums and do the same using motorex.
Then I thought, smarter people than me write these manuals. Maybe I’ll just do what the book says... then even further I had a conversation with someone in the oils making industry saying Motorex is good but not magical.

Since then I have changed the oil every 15 hours and put Penrite oil (Australian oil maker) in them. For reference I ride hard, regularly see the rev limiter and often spend 1 minute + at WOT riding out past 160+ KPH
No I’m not ET3 but I compete in desert racing and if it’s short course it’s on-road motard. This is harder on the motor than blipping around a SX track and is in much harsher conditions.

Since doing this I’ve collectively put 14,000 kms across 2 bikes and sold them in perfect running condition.
They have been a 350 excf and 350 SXF

Not telling you to do this, just providing data for your perusal.
I’ll probably pop a big end tomorrow 😆

I tried the less expensive full synthetic oils in my KTM450 but found myself finding neutral too often - Bel Ray Synthetic Ester fixed that problem.

I have an 11 350 and I've never used Motorex. Bike has only needed rebuilt once.

Oil conversations are filled with lots of hear-say, conjecture and superstition. The little letters and numbers on the bottle are industry standards. Short of lying and deception, if an oil says it meets the standard, it meets the standard. Regardless of the brand. The formula of additives differ between brands.

The base oil mostly does not wear out. It does burn up. Used oil can be filtered, refined and used again. So why change the oil? With use, the oil accumulates acids from condensation, carbon and gunk from combustion, metals from engine internals. The filter removes some of this but not all.

Motorcycle oil has to accomplish several tasks other than allowing the engine to keep turning. You have a wet clutch, transmission in addition to the piston and crank. Each require different properties.

As long as the oil you want to use meets the same industry standards recommended by the OEM, your engine will be happy.
