Everytime something like this happens I forget to note it/point it out... but I just had to post when I saw this cause of how frustrating it was.

Anybody else screaming at the cameras to go back to Reed when he was charging and passing Friese? Crowd’s going nuts and they’re showing Tomac passing a no name... idk maybe I’m just a Reed fanboy but this isn’t the first time.

I was thinking the same thing

|

I was thinking the same thing. The crowd was going nuts and we have to look at the leaderboard to figure out what's going on.

|

Yeah I gave my TV the finger. Super annoying.

Yeah it's quite frustrating to hear the crowd and announcers in the background screaming about Reed and seeing the move on the chart meanwhile we are watching Tomac doing nothing.

|

1/12/2019 7:02 PM

Also why don't they put the leaderboard across the top
And show the lap times
And duct tape Ralph's mouth

|

1/12/2019 7:03 PM

i was more interested in tomac. it's like there might be more than one thing interesting going on and they can't show it all…

100%. Watching thr times. Hearing crowd cheer and we're missing out on the real action ffs.

Reeds best ride in 2 years probably and we miss out on him making a pass for second. Only a heat race, but still. Give us the action that matters.

Glad I’m not the only one.. was watching Reed cut the gap on the leaderboard, obviously gonna make the pass, and thought to myself “no way they’re not gonna show this.. no way they don’t switch back soon.. omg they’re actually not showing this”

|

1/12/2019 7:07 PM

That 2nd heat coverage was terrible.

|

1/12/2019 7:08 PM

Yeah, it's fucking ridiculous how often this happens. Who the hell is directing this thing?

I Hate when they go back and show the start or replays during the first few laps of any race or during the first 5 or 6 of a main in Moto those are the most exciting parts where mist action happens

|

1/12/2019 7:10 PM

Sad I missed the pass on Friese, but that look back on Bagget was so awesome...

Youngsters got the old man fired up tonight!

|

1/12/2019 7:12 PM

Same thing every year.

|

1/12/2019 7:12 PM

Smarttops had Brayton and Friese in 1 and 2 positions for a while and not a word or camera shot.

And why are there no camera shots of whatever happened to Savatgy, Lopes and Pettis?

I threw my arms up, a bit of swearing. Then thort, it's OK, they will show a replay.
But no, Ralph says 2 laps later "and Reed is up into 2nd place" angry

It’s a F’n joke and I’m glad there is a thread about it !
During the 250 race they were showing Cantrell and McAdoo (in 10th) lap after lap and I swear they must of thought they were tracking the McElrath/Hampshire battle for 3rd.
Also why don’t they show the battle for the last transfer spot in heats???
Had an Aussie (Ravenhorst) in 9th in 250 heat and they just followed the leader and then cut it after the checkers.. had to wait til the 250 LCQ to find out if he made it or not (he didn’t so there must of been a battle).
Missing the Reed battle was stupid. We can track Tomacs progress on the lap chart or put him in a box down the bottom. Stop missing the great battles Ralph ! (I know he doesn’t control the cameras but he should have input into what’s going on.. I’d expect him to have a pit board and write on it WTF are you idiots doing!?!? Point to Reed now!)

My Internet from 1997 was faster than Ralph commenting on position updates.

I’d say there’s about 3-4 crowd cheering sessions per SX that we hear on the broadcast, but never see what is happening. I guess that’s why it’s better to be there. You’d still think that with all the cameras, the guy in the booth choosing which one gets the airplay would have sense enough to direct the action shot to the viewers.

Guess he was busy though. Photo

I agree with all of these comments. They show Savatgy hurt or whatever but then say nothing about him not doing the LCQ or not in the main. They don't need to know why right away just mention that a major factory rider is not on the line.

|

Agree strongly with all. Yesterday’s re airing on NBC shows the restart but never shows Mookies crash or explains what happened. But gotta give credit, I did learn that Honda’s are red and Kawasaki’s are green

|

best part of the camera work was the turn before straight away. sound speed etc were on point.
plus 100 on needing to keep the shots moving. stop hanging on 1 rider soooo long.
ralph and rc. please purchase or steal a riders program and study the bikes teams and riders. why do we know more about your job than you? bet that wouldn't apply the other way around...……...

If I'm healthy enough to complain. I shouldn't be complaining.

This is an issue almost every week and yes it’s frustrated. When baggett was catching Anderson in the main and we were watching some mid pack battle all I could think was here we go again. Fortunately they switched cameras in time to see the battle but it does seem to be an issue often.

Yeah pisses me that they show the winner riding over to the mechanic rather than the battles still happening for the transfers.

|

I like how they go back and show the start in the middle of the race. I mean... We just saw the start jackasses

"...winner riding over to the mechanic rather than the battles still happening for the transfers."

This! 1000 times this. The production crew have use of picture in picture and they use it a fair bit as well yet for some reason the tv audience will have to put up with viewing a rider all by himself on the last lap and over the finish line when we could be watching battles further down field. Instead it's like "winner's crossed the finish that's it nothing more to see folks, move along"

This isn't a supercross only predicament either, this happens during the nationals and MXGP. A battle will be ensuing for a podium spot or top ten position on the last lap only for the tv director to switch to the leader all by his lonesome and then hold the camera shot of the finish line jump (the wrong bloody side as well). It puts such an anti climatic feel to what is an exciting sport it's infuriating It's the soccer equivalent of a penalty kick about to be struck and the tv director deciding to change camera shot and show the reaction of the crowd rather than the kick. There would be riots if that happened.

Plus would it not be more appealing to potential sponsors if they knew that even sponsoring one of the lower order riders there would still be a good chance of getting their product/s name seen?

I was thinking the same thing. I'm thinking the same thing several times each broadcast. I swear the film crew doesn't understand what they're filming. Including their producer... maybe i'm wrong...

|

1/14/2019 8:31 AM

I want them to zoom out a little so I can get perspective. The super close shot does nothing for me.

|

1/14/2019 9:18 AM

If I was the producer I would look at one thing.

Time gap between rider:

+3 Seconds not much happening
+1.5 seconds keep your eye on the battle
+1 second, worth showing on tv (no matter what position they are battling for)
+0.5 keep the camera on them
