I think you can see Anderson making a dedicated effort to go as high as he could to avoid Sexton. Anderson’s performance is the exact opposite of when Webb accelerated off of Cianciarulo’s body when he went down in front of Webb in some whoops. Webb appeared to open the throttle on top of Cianciarulo.

Torque is applied about the CG, which will raise the back and lower the front in the case of a factory Kawasaki
It was really close. Look at where Anderson's rear wheel touches down, what, 3 feet beyond Sexton? And Sexton's back is probably close to 2 feet off the ground...

It was very obvious live that JA didn't see him (kinda surprisingly honestly) until the last second and he grabbed a ton of throttle and did an X Games step up the best he could. It all happens fast and I was about to puke thinking the worst about went down... but it didn't and Chase avoided worse impact and Jason went onto the checkers.
I do have questions about the events following to divert the risk and keep the racing safe and fair, but that's another topic for the governing bodies to look at.

I assume he saw the bike but didn’t have enough time to know if it was Sexton or a lapper. He wasn’t that far back with a lap to go, I’d have stayed on the throttle too.

Moto520's point was that the front wheel drops when applying rear brake in the air. The bike pivots about the rear axle when this happens; not at the footpegs or front axle. Therefore, it does nothing to raise the rear wheel and would thus not assist in saving Chase from a rear tire impact.
I think the physics are probably more complicated than that. It's probably more likely that the rotational energy goes into the entire motorcycle and the whole thing rotates about its center of gravity while in the air. This would, in fact, raise the rear wheel somewhat.
