This weekend the final round of the Dutch Masters of Motocross takes place at the famous Zwartecross festival with an attendance of over 200,000 people expected to be there.

The KNMV have managed to secure a few wildcard entries for the final round. It’s recently been announced that Malcolm Stewart will be making the trip over to have a go at riding the sand! Stewart will be racing the MX1 class and be up against the likes of Jeffrey Herlings, Max Anstie, Gautier Paulin and Romain Febvre just to name a few.

Stewart isn’t the only wildcard American coming to the event though as Justin Starling will also be competing. Starling isn’t a complete stranger in Europe as he’s contested Supercross and Arenacross races before but now he’s going to have a go in the sand in the MX2 category.

They won’t be the only American competing at the event though as Thomas Covington will be competing in what could be his last ever Dutch Masters Championship as he’s heading back to America next year.

Has this race ever had 200,000 people attend it? Is this blown out of proportion? Kinda like last week's GP race in Asia........claimed 47,000.....but looked more like 4,700.....tops. Dry

It'S a festival, not just a race. The racing is part of the program.
There won't be 200000 people watching the motocross race

This is some footage from last year. 200K is actual tickets sold, but there's also lots of music stages so there ain't 200K people sidelined. It still looks pretty packed though

Well....damn that looks like a freakin' blast! I've heard of this race over the past few years but never paid much attention to it. Definitely more intrigued!

I went in 2012 and I’ve never seen that many people at an event before. Ever.

Really? Damn it , it seems I kind of passed over this event thinking it was some small farm race. Sounds like I've been corrected on that. It also sounds like a really cool race / event to check out one of these years.

In 2012, they had 156.000 in attendance. This has grown to 220.000 last year, and this year as well (they put a cap on it). Tickets were sold out in a day or so. I'm actually going as well.

The festival was started 20 years ago by a band that was quite popular in the region. They liked music and motocross and wanted to have a race followed by a concert. A couple of 100 people showed up.

That has developed in this massive event. I think the main reason why this is such a succes is because they think outside the box and basically do stuff just because it can. They didnt like that the motocross and main music stage were seperated, so they build a jump over the main stage.

And they do this in a very mellow way &together with the community. 4.000 members from 150 regional clubs/associations (sports, students, good cause etc.) volunteer for the event (running the bars, safety, etc.) and the festival pays the clubs a fee for this.
But they also bring all the senior citizens from care centers in the region to the festival for free and even take them a lap around the mx circuit, just because they feel that elder/immoble people should also be able to enjoy the festival.
Etc. etc.

Pictures, pictures, pictures! Today Malcolm and the Americans didn't race yet but if you see how many people are at the track just to watch and party when the little ones are racing! That is just crazy!

When you're 40 its maybe not the smartest move to line-up against riders like Thomas Covington, Thomas Kjer-Olsen and Jago Geerts. But I wish him all the best and a good recovery!

MXDN looks bright for NLD. If Hoff and Vlaaderen can deliver, they are contenders no doubt

Stewart and Starling lapped?

What a surprise.
There are two Americans who wouldn't get lapped on a real old fashion sand track: Tomac and Barcia. All the others would be lapped just like Jeffrey lapped everyone except Jeremy Van Horebeek at the MX2 race 1 in Lierop 2012. That kid pisses dutch sand, shits dutch sand, he dreams about riding old fashion sand tracks... Back in 2012, those last minutes of that heat everyone was rooting for him because they hoped to witness history, they hoped that he could lap everyone!
