I hate to say this but in the 70's and 80's a World Championship meant something to American racers, not so much anymore. Don't believe me go read some of Brad Lackey's stories about racing for CZ and living in Eastern-Block countries while trying to become a World Champion.
There’s no benefit to a top American going to race in Europe. Their value is high here and will only go one way after racing Jeffrey and Tim.
So that leaves 2nd rate Americans with no options here, Jordan Smith or Brandon Hartranft but reality is they would struggle to be top 20 and they can make more money racing Supercross only as privateers.
The final option is a close to retiring top rider. RV in 2015. Most likely if them to go for it is Barcia, he’s got in laws in England, obviously GasGas likes him and Gabrielle at Alpinestars is a fan. But it won’t be a 2012-13 Barcia.
Let’s be honest, no American in 2021 wanted to win a Moto as bad as Herlings and Prado did today.
The only racers making anything past covering their expenses are about 11 guys on factory backed teams, the rest are hobbyists looking to become one of the 11 guys making money.
Thank Mr. Loungo for that.
One other thing I found interesting is that the AMA and MX Sports officials at the very highest level went out of their way to find My Dutch racer in the pits at the nationals, and stop by to say "hi" and see if there was anything we needed.
My guy was shocked and surprised that so many officials came to check on us, he told me in MXGP if you are not one of the top 3 they tell you to basically go fuck yourself if you needed anything.
So the differences between how InFront runs the races as opposed to the AMA/MX Sports (who paid out prize money IN CASH), is a little different too.
