Looks like Honda may have let Trey Canard out of his contract a bit early. It's going to be a bit weird seeing Trey on something other than red, as Honda has stuck behind him for a long time now. Based off the wording, it sounds like Brent Presnell will be following Trey to KTM.

American Honda PR:
TORRANCE, Calif. (Aug. 24, 2016) – Honda Motor Corp., Inc. extends its sincere appreciation to Trey Canard, who has dedicated his entire professional career thus far to the Honda brand. Through high points and challenging periods, Canard’s commitment to racing and his fans has never wavered, and it has been a pleasure having him and mechanic Brent Presnell in the Honda family for the past 10 years. Everyone at Honda wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.

Wow. That's great. It speaks volumes for the amount of character and type of person that Trey is.
All the best to him!

It's refreshing seeing a contract end with respect on both sides.

I worked on the media side of things at Honda for several years and during that time got to work with Trey on many occasions. He was always a pleasure to deal with and so fun to watch over the years. My son "grew up" watching Trey race and got to see him in the semi at the races all the time so he's obviously his favorite rider. Not a bad role model to look up to as far as I'm concerned!! I'll definitely miss Trey riding for us but will still cheer for him no matter what brand he is on.

One of my favorite riders. Class act with out a doubt...

Wish him well moving forward with his career on a different brand.

Any word why Honda didn't renew his contract after all those years?

Isn't Brent going "In House" at Honda. That was what was being floated around at Budds.

According to Racer X, Presnell is not joining Canard at KTM.

That speaks volumes about the type of guy Trey is. In a sport where bad mouthing riders/teams whenever they end their relationship is the norm, Honda puts out a statement congratulating Trey and a tribute video highlighting his career. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Trey is one of (if not the only) guy that I would consider a role model for young kids. Keep it up, Trey!

Very classy - not a fan of Honda but this just swayed me a little - nice tribute Honda...

Gotta add Andrew Short to that list.

Wow, that video gave me chills. Brought back so many memories and emotions, from watching him fight back the outdoor title to watching him get landed on. I still remember getting in trouble with the wife for yelling so loud after he won in Oakland.

I wish Trey the best on his new team and hope this is a refreshing new beginning for him.

Gonna be weird seeing him on orange, but I'm just glad to see him out there period.

200% for the win!

I knew this day would come, but I'll still be a trey fan no matter what brand he rides.
Hope he comes back next year and wins sx championship.

My Canard resolve has never been stronger and can't for the Red Bull KTM #41 pics to come out. Very professional farewell from Honda for a very professional employee. Bravo to both sides.

At least for trey, he's leaving a good bike and getting on another that's equally good. If not better.

If that KTM can do for Canard next year what it has done for Milsaps this year, I have a feeling Canard could give the top spot a serious run!

Serious props to Honda for putting out this video. Classy!

I so hope Trey just dominates on the orange bike. Honda should have kept him, he can't be THAT expensive.
