Hi guys, after making the switch from a 2012 KX450F to a YZ 250 two stroke I realized how bad the 450 idea was. I mean, the 450 literally seemed unrideable. If I came up short or overjumped stuff, I would feel as if I was literally being stopped to zero, no matter if I landed on the gas. Also, I never was confident on it, altought the 250 "feels faster" (and I know it is not), I feel really in control on it. So the question is, is there something wrong with my riding? Because I can't believe that people affirm how easy to ride a 450 is compared to this hard and demanding 2 strokes. Are new 450 really that much better that I can't even compare them to my old 2012? Just asking out of curiosity and not to start another 2 stroke vs 4 stroke debate.

They weren’t. It’s how you ride them. I wouldn’t like to see 450’s go the same way and racing become 250 4 stroke based as the premier class. I hated it when that happened to the 500’s.
I don’t think I ever got over it lol.
You are just not used to it.
I came off a 250 2 stroke to a 250f and I was like this is what riding a fucking dirt bike is all about. Sold my 2 stroke a few weeks later. Couldn’t believe how much damn fun and fast the 250f was.
Got a 450 shortly after also since I’m too big for a 250f.
I like having a 450...but if I ever get another one...I will go with the ktm, unless Yamaha finds a way to get the weight down to the same as ktm
I just picked up a 19 KTM 350 this weekend can’t wait to ride it. Seems like the perfect balance

now i do love me some 125 tho.
Someone else mentioned 500s also. Ive owned a couple cr500s and they were much much more rideable to me then the 15 kawi. They came on smoother and pulled over a broader window to me. The kawi hit hard, abruptly and signed off shortly after.
My 18 rmz is so much smoother and mellower. Incredibly easy to ride, effortlessly pulls around the track at low rpm and low throttle inputs.
450F I am fine as long as I am riding at least weekly, not all that often these days so just find the 250F easier to jump on and ride at a reasonable level.
Spent 2017 on a 250 two stroke, so much fun to ride on practice days or fun riding, but struggle when it came to race day on it.
Actually thinking I might race a 125 two stroke next year, about the only bike I have never spent a year on racing.
