Pipe looks very similar to the HGS pipe and silencer looks shorter than previous years

My wife's 2020 yz125 has the HGS system and v force. It definitely produces more power than her previous stock one did but from what I've seen and heard of the Austrian bikes that in itself won't be enough to make them level. Hopefully the cylinder mods make up the rest of the gap

Peak, no. Power profile and rideablity can bridge that gap, for some riders. The YZ is just easier to go fast on, I think. But the KTM is still faster at full-tilt. So I am sort of hoping the new YZ keeps it's widespread power but just have more up top (where the current one runs out of steam.)

Actually it doesn’t make much difference. Some KTM minis use a Zeus fastener in the same location. I’ve change the seat cover on my sons bike and it went on as easily

both ktm and yamaha share the same bore and stroke. the new yz 125 gets new cylinder body, cylinder head, piston, piston pin, connecting rod, crankcase and expansion chamber.

Also gets the v force and a new airbox not sure about the boot?

is that going to be enough?

For the life of me I can't understand the 125 2-stroke craze. You guys have that much fun casing jumps while sounding like you're going fast? It takes a real high caliber rider to go fast on a 125 as these bikes were literally designed for teenagers coming off of 80's.

With all the modern tracks being designed around the power of 4-strokes, wouldn't it make sense to come out with a 350cc 2-stroke MX machine? "But you're not allowed to race it!" Well, your average rider on a 125 against 250 four strokes, you can find him way in the back of the pack, more than likely casing the shit out of everything, so how fun is that?

I completely get a 125 would be a fun bike if you're extremely fast, like damn near pro level. Just the challenge of being handicapped on power but still being competitive/winning races but what's the appeal for the average Joe?

If Yamaha came out with a YZ 350 2-stroke with all the new tech, bells and whistles nobody would be able to keep that bike in stock.
I'm not pro and I've had some pretty great results on my 2020 YZ125. Last year at an Oregon State series round I entered 30+ and 40+. I won 3 of my 4 motos against all 450's and 250f's. The only moto I lost was barely to a 450 because I got a bad start. The challenge of being down on power makes it even that much more fun and thrilling when you do succeed. The spectators absolutely go nuts when an underpowered 125 is leading and battling with a bunch of 450's...

I'm taller (6', 183cm) and heavier (190lbs, 86kg) and to me a 125 still makes perfect sense!

Haha good on Yamaha for investing in their two stroke platforms 👍
