One race and one practice? Knew a few guys who raced 125 who had one for each or a back up bike.

OK good point that makes sense but he said he was gonna have more fun then everyone else and that really didn't give off the serious racer vibe to me but I'll stop cause now I'm just stereotyping racers and I'm pissing a few off lol

Understood. Maybe a garage queen and a mudder. Or one for him and one for a visiting friend. I need friends with extra bikes to loan. Actually had a friend who was always in bands and when he graduated college and made some good money he bought guitar, bass, keys, amps and drums. Then he invited all his old friends who sold their stuff to come over and jam.

I have nothing smart to add at the moment. I just wanted post #245.

That’s the number that’s going on my 2022 YZ125

125 guys ride more, they don’t do training stuff much. They just ride a lot. 1 bike is for the heavy hours- the practice bike. 2nd bike is for racing, but still sees practice time. Just try to limit the hours. I had 2 06,s for practice, 04 cr125 stroker crank mod bike for races. I only used 1 06 for practice . The other 06 was a backup spare. They where all stolen

I can't believe people still don't understand supply and demand. If you want one, pay up. If not because a dealer is going to get a little extra on it because of demand, go be poor somewhere else. At least walk away without whining about it.
Its a yamaha, if it were ktm I would stay away from first year models.

If it were a Honda*. fixed it for you.

Of all the brands with new model issues Honda seems to clearly take the cake.

Honda no longer exists for me because they dont have 2 strokes and their 250f is too slow.

Its about time! I don't know what Yamaha has been waiting for. The market is there, their closest rivals bowed out and they were in the perfect position to do this 10 year ago. So its a little late, but never too late I suppose.

Generally, I like the updates. The only major gripe that I've had with the KTM is that I don't want air forks. The major gripe with Yamaha is I don't want to pay that much for such an old design. If they don't jack the prices up, I could be persuaded to jump ship over to Yamaha. Overall...I think the KTM still has them beat on style...and I would rather be on a steel frame.

But finally...something to think about.

Yamaha all day for me. I don't doubt that the KTM is a "better" machine, but with the upgrades I will put on mine I think I'll be more comfortable on it. Honestly, I prefer the aluminum framed bikes I've owned to all the steel framed ones.

Or you could buy 2 of these for the price of a new YZ, they corner better and hold a line better. Add a stroker crank and the torque is higher than a Ktm.

People are asking 5500 for those roached out slow turds now.

Nothing beats a fresh bike that hasn’t been molested by some clown with a pipe wrench.

You can get spring conversion kits for air forks.

Thats what I love about ktms the most expensive bikes in its class and it needs suspension work.

You’ve ridden a 21 and set it up for yourself? Because I own one and it’s flat out great stock.

Dude, have you been eating cheese curds laced with LSD?

Not a fair fight, but me and a friend on here rode his cr125 with my ktm150 back to back. Wide open, the cr makes about the same power as that ktm150 at 1/4 throttle. It's not even close. It's not even like they are in the same class, by a county mile.

And you could put both the engines from the cr125 on one frame and it would still be slow af

It doesn't, the 2018 125 airfork is great. Really, really good stock. It runs a check plate instead of midvalve , so it's more close to a 2 dimensional cone valve.

Also, it's really light, so you don't need a ton of air in it, so not as much stiction or ramping up.

You can drop the back spring off the shock in 10 mins, by just undoing 2 bolts on the linkage and the clevis, so it's quick to adjust to riders without swapping fork springs.

Im not dissing the air forks on the ktm as being bad. In fact I hear they are good. But the sss on the yz is better imo. And I work on my own stuff and have no desire to work on the air forks.

The irony is, they are the most simple design to work on, that's the beauty of them.

But yes, the new yz is a great bike and setup for many. I am tempted to pick up a yz250.

2mm stroker crank, 2mm ovr bore, decked, ported, carb bored, etc= 23 ft lbs of torque. Engine was specifically built for 10 rounds of Millville. Unfortunately the bike was stolen.

No way it makes 23 ft-lbs of torque. That would be 52.50hp at 12k rpm. Not trying to be a dick, but I have my doubts.

Aprox 40 hp. Strong and wide mid range pull. Chad Johnson,s kx125 sold me on JM Racing 125,s. Ryan Dungee, josh Grant, etc. Gnarly usable long mid pull sound, quick out of corners. not a 10,500 to 12,500 engine, Love those also tho

Everyone says cr125,s are slow, but they still finish in the top 3 at Millville a hp track in 2021. Bam Bam,s cr125 wasn’t slow, it was the fastest 125 in the country. A 180 lb Preston beat stew on one in sx.
