Alex Harvill Attempting Distance Record Jump

Looks like Alex Harvill will be attempting to break Robbie Maddison's distance record jump (ramp to ramp) and he will be doing so on May 7th at the Talladega NASCAR event.

Scheduled to happen just before the race gets started and will be televised on FOX.

He's already has a couple distance records and says that his personal best is currently 425ft however I believe that was from ramp to dirt. He says he wants to go over the 400ft mark and believes that he can replicate the jump even though it'll be ramp to ramp.

I'll definitely tune in to watch it go down.

That is crazy. Good luck to him on a successful jump and hopefully a record.

Honestly never thought 400' would be possible considering how big a deal they made out of 300' and how crazy that was.

Yeah it says "Two steel ramps, 26 feet high and 30 feet wide, will be positioned for the jump in the infield". Obviously his take off ramp is not 30 feet wide, so I took that to mean that USA Today was maybe a little confused, and that they are building two 30 foot wide structures that will be connected as the landing ramp.

30 feet of landing area is even scarier. At 425 feet, with a 30 foot wide landing area, if your heading is off by 2.0214 degrees when you leave the takeoff, you hit the side of your landing ramp. This is an insanely narrow window.

It won't let me read it on the computer either but it will on my phone. But the article does clearly say two ramps 30 feet wide and his take off is definitely not 30 feet wide. I have to think there's no way that he's jumping that far to a 30 foot wide landing. That's insane.

I doubt that he would attempt a jump of that distance to land on a 30 foot wide landing. It has to be two 30 foot wide ramps set next to one another.

30 feet wide isn't all that much. A gust of wind sideways and I think he could totally miss the landing.

Maddison's record jump was ramp to dirt and his is ramp to ramp. Maddison's was on a 500 two stroke and Harvill looks like he's on a 450. How can they make a 450 reach speeds of 110 mph? That's 177 km/h. Let me tell you I've been over 200 km/h before albeit on a snowmobile and not a bike but seeing the ground and trees go by at those speeds it's fast. I couldn't even imagine going that fast and hitting a ramp let alone flying over 400 feet and sticking the landing.

It's sad to say but eventually it won't end so well for one of those guys. If you've seen the movie Seth The Hard Way it's suprising it hasn't already happened. Seth's jump went way wrong and if I remember correctly that was just over half the distance Harvill is attempting.

That is huge. I don't do freestyle but had the chance to buy a ramp off the Nitro Circus and it is pretty fun. We just put it next to a big double and hit it every few laps as an alternative line. It doesn't take much throttle to lauch big off of them. I couldn't imagine hitting my ramp pinned.

Harvill has already jumped 425ft back in 2012. It was ramp to dirt. So I guess this is the ramp to ramp world record. Plus he might beat 425.

Little OT but Toes MX Park was the best goddamn moto track that I have ever ridden. The fact that there were multiple distance jump world records broken there just adds its legendary status. Place deserved a national. Rest in damn peace Toes.

A Guinness official has to verify for it to be considered an official world record. So at things like this, there has to be someone on-site to take measurements and authorize it.

Man these guys are nuts...

He almost flat landed all of his jumps, so he better make a big ass metal ramp....

If it was me, I would stick to the dirt landing and get a big ass stroker 450 and gear it to do 500 ft! Fuck that metal landing ramp biz, thats dangerous as hell, LOL!
