Aftermarket exhausts

Bikes are pretty refined these days. Why is it that manufacturers don't know how to build an exhaust? I see lots of ads and bikes with pipes that cost from 400 to we'll over 1000 dollars. I could see in 1974 the CR125 may have needed a up pipe, but a bike over 9k shouldn't need a new pipe. Or do people have too much money and they need to spend it before the government gets it?

They need to speend money.
Honestly, on the newer bikes, you don't need an aftermarket exhaust, unless you're changing a different power delivery or your bike to look cooler.

I buy one solely because it looks and sounds bitchin. I cant tell a power difference at all, but it makes my bike look and sound a lot faster.

The government takes your money before your employer gives it to you. Then they take it again when youre buying the pipe.

You dont need a pipe. Nobody is going any faster on a 450 with an aftermarket pipe vs a stock pipe.

I ride a kawi 450 & I can totally tell a significant difference between the stock pipe, a Yoshi pipe & a PC pipe. I choose to run the PC pipe & it smooths out the power & helps it pull longer in gears.

I think the stock pipe is fine for 90-95% of the "dirt bike riding population." We need to remember that a MAJORITY of the riders don't "need" a pipe & the stock pipe is fine for what they are doing.

It's all about $$$. They add a pipe & now it adds a grand to MSRP.

I have a full Yoshimura set up on my RMZ 250. I would not say it increased horsepower (at least that I can feel). But the day I got it I rode the bike back to back with the stock pipe and I would say it was noticeable that it changed where the meat of the power was. Off the bottom the bike felt a little more timid but sections where I would struggle in 2nd and needing to shift to 3rd I was able to hold longer in 2nd gear and not fall off the power (or not fall off as noticeably.)

The only difference I feel is in my pants when the exhaust pops all loud and I see that beautiful blue titanium. On the track is pretty much the same as the stock pipe.

A lot of the bikes now come with great exhausts that are sometimes even better than the aftermarket options.

Hell I went back to the stock tc250 silencer because my pants dyno said it worked better with the PC pipe

The government will find a way to take your money regardless of how many pipes you buy, but yes pipes on 450s are like spinners on a 2004 Cadillac Escalade...it’s just what you do bro

Any other questions m8??

I felt a huge difference on my friends 19 YZ125 with the stock system vs a GYTR shorty and FMF pipe.

Big difference in my 17 FC450. The proof was running Mt. St. Helen. The over rev made a big difference and cut the travel time down for me. I think a slip on though would have made the same difference at 1/2 the cost.

It can be a decent weight savings. Performance? Very mild change to power delivery. Probably not the best money spent.

I've felt a difference in every pipe I've had on every bike I've ever had one on.Had a full FMF on my 14 YZ450. Was it $700 worth of power? No, but it did move the power around and made it better in certain areas that needed improvement without taking away from the areas that were already good.

I have just an FMF 4.1 slip on on my 17 RMZ450 and it definitely helped out with a little more on the bottom. The stock one is good, especially for guys that like a very easy feeling 450, but I wanted a little more down low like my Yamaha had. The slip on definitely helped with that! Plus, I now have a spark arrestor so I can ride off-road and at a local track that is owned by the state.

I have a PC stainless system on my 19 KX450. It made the engine pull sooner and stronger through the bottom mid and top. After adding a fast flow air filter and remapping from Tokyo mods there is a significant improvement with top end and over rev. Bike is easier to ride. Its also a good bit lighter than stock. Did I really need it? No of course not, I can't use all of the horsepower on a 450. Adjusting the bars,
controls and foot pegs along with adding the proper spring rates is far more important.

This right here, plus why not support the aftermarket companies?
