Ok i have just started racing again after over 3 years out and have lost track on what is the best riding gear. I was looking at buying some Alpinestar Tech 10's mainly as i have some Aplinestar boots for on the road and they are so comfy and i feel really safe in them. What do you guys recommend?? I heard some of the pro's were staying with some of the older boot designs from Alpinestar thats all?? Thanks

Tech 8's are great but if you want another choice try a pair of Sidi's. Not sure how the price compares in the US but they're a good buy here in Aus.

Gaerne are the best boots I have ever worn. Sidi boots are great too. Personal preference.

I have a pair of Tech 8's right now that have fallen apart after half a season. I'm gonna go with Gaerne SG-10's for my next boot. Everyone I talk to loves them.

Do you have a Local MX store where you can try on boots? As previously mentions, the Gaerne are the current favorite. Alpinestars are great as are sidi and fox; you just need to try them on and see which one feels the best and then decide which fits your budget.

Some people swear by knee braces while others avoid them. The argument being you can easily break a femur with a knee brace . . . the trade off is blowing out a knee (soft tissue damage) which usually takes a year to heal and may never be the same or a broken bone which usually takes a few months to heal and is good as new (* I'm using generalities)

Neck braces like the Leatt have a similiar argument, spine verses collar bone

Definitely invest in a good helmet and replace it if you have taken a hard head first digger in it.

Chest protector w/shoulder protection is a good idea but are not much protection in a really hard get off

After years of wearing Tech 8's, I finally gave up on them and went to Gaerne SG-10's a few seasons back.

They are so much better. Just put them on and go ride. They have virtually no break-in time unlike Tech 8's that literally feel like casts when you first wear them.

I've also worn SIDI's (not their latest boot, though) and they were good too.

Buy Gaerne SG-10 and you won't have to buy new soles after 6 months...

They are super comfortable and last forever.

I agree.. my Gaerne's fit and felt great the first time I wore them. Before I had a pair of Tech 8's and hated that it took so long to break them in.

I love my Sidi's, soles last much longer than the Alpinestars I used to have and they are extremely comfortable. After I broke my foot because of the buckle that is on top of the foot on the A-Stars I will not wear boots with that buckle there again.

Blimey thanks everyone for your advice. Didnt expect such a good response Smile seems that the Gaernes are the way to go maybe.

Ozy thanks for pointing out the bit about knee braces!! Thats something which i want to get in the near future so thats something to think about when buying the boots. As for the neck brace well im not overly sure about them. I always go for safety but i have read certain negative reports about the side effects of them. Will look into them a little more.. oh and try and save a little money for one Smile

I tried some Tech 8's today and these fitted pretty nice but not as great as i expected. Tried some Fox boots and they really didnt feel good at all. I actually walked past one pair and almost never gave them a second look as i didnt even recognise the name - TCX ?? until i was informed they were Oxtar's boot. They were the Pro 2's and they were really comfy. Im going to try and find a dealer with the Gaerne SG-10's now Smile

the new sg-12s. hands down without a doubt. do not put them on unless you really want to buy them, because im telling you, you wont leave the store without them once you try them on.

I"m on my second pair of Oxtar TCX Pro's.
Good boots, last a long time, good ankle protection.
The Pro 2's have a redesigned buckle system, the old system was my only real bitch about the boots.
