AMA sanctioning for a local race (question)

We have a big annual local race around here that used to just fall under the local organizations rules and class structure. This year it is AMA sanctioned so if you aren't an AMA member, you need to become one and the classes are now structured like AMA classes which is different than our local structure. My question is, what is the advantage to AMA sanctioning at the local level?

$$$$
I assumed that was the case but for whom? I don't understand how "sanctioning" works.

I would imagine mainly for the AMA. Think of all the racers that race (what we call) "Outlaw tracks" that do not require much of a membership. AMA can hop in and then require a membership. That's $39 for everyone who didn't have an AMA membership already. Now all of the AMA's rules are applied and they have now "planted their seed" at this track.

Maybe most tracks are ok with this too as they have a well known entity in regulation of their track.

I could be way off here but that is my best guess.

It makes sense that the AMA would want it but I just don't know what they offer the local track in return.

Event Insurance purchased through the AMA is cheap. I'm not up to speed on Coverage Limits and Exclusions, though.

The annual membership is $49, but you can buy a day pass for $20, which can be credited toward an annual membership if you upgrade within 60 or 90 days.

Regarding the insurance the price is pretty much the same whether you purchase insurance through the AMA or use your own provider. They have a list of approved providers, and I think there is a process to have your carrier added if they are not on the list.

The promoter also has to pay an annual charter fee and a sanction fee for each race. I promote flattrack, and we do two rounds of the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Series, and they are generally more successful than our regular events.

I skip those ones. Seems strange to me these one off ama races keep pooping up.

Haven't done events on a couple years but a couple years ago the big advantage with ama was the insurance.

It was about the same price but you could get it without scaled track drawings and 100 pictures that all had to be approved by the underwritter.

I did the drawings for our carrier on PowerPoint, and they were definitely not to scale, Regarding the photos, I took about six pics with my phone and they were fine. The rates have increased $10 per event about five years ago, but they have always been within $10 of what was purchased through the AMA. Our only complaint with the AMA is that you pretty much had to send in the paperwork within a couple days of the event in order to get your sanction for the next weekend's event. Our current carrier does not want any of the post race paperwork, and only require that we keep it on file in case they need it.

Adding that we are an oval track, which probably eliminates the need for more pictures.

The ama is the only pushback against land closers and bs lead laws. But of coarse snowflake ebikers don't care about riding in the desert.
As far as local races it provides some kind of uniform rules that are what Lorretta's uses.

I swear if I see one more 'I rode my ebike today ' thread, I'm going to puke.
