Does anyone know if there is a rule on this?

Does the rule book address how many races must be run in order to declare a champion? Or is it simply up to the AMA to decide?

I looked recently and found no such rule. However, there are several references to shortened races, and they all set a precedent of: "however much racing has transpired, that is the full race if the race cannot continue." It would lead me to believe they will call it as the points now stand if this season ends today.

If Eli wins this way will anyone start the hash tag #notmychampion?

No, but I do think an asterisk would be deemed necessary in this case.

How many races were included in the last 500cc MX National Championship? All his competitors were at all of the same races. No asterisk needed.

Have no idea, I think it would be worth noting it was not a complete season. It’s ok dude, we don’t have to all think alike.

It's a series.

The rider at the end of the series with the most points wins.

This is what the SX rulebook says about crowning a champion.

I think we'll get some news on the plans for the rest of the Supercross season sooner, rather than later.
I second this... been hearing a LOT of rumblings of racing "sooner rather than later".. we'll see how the next few weeks go....

You can't win the championship at A1, but you sure can lose it...just sayin'.

I think you may have misinterpreted what I said.

I think we'll get news soon. More Supercross? That'll be later, rather than sooner...but still this year.

And regardless of whether there is any more racing this year or not, the rule-book early posted above clearly states in 4.29c "the total series points accumulated from each Main Event."

It doesn't say there is any minimum number of Main Events required.

The AMA already has set a precedent for not finishing out a season, just ask Ryan Hughes.

But with the Supercross series being sort of a hybrid FIM/AMA thing, who knows...…?

Has an FIM MX series ever had to cancel the last round(s) of a series? The number of rounds isn't really relevant, even though it may seem like it.

I did some checking, and as-is it'd be considered a complete championship by the FIM.

Honestly it's probably nothing anyone ever thought would occur because it would take something so major for it to happen that attention would be on other things anyway...…….

It would have probably seemed like having to write a rule that banned riders from bringing pet unicorns into the pits or something....

For sure. Who expects something like this?

Maybe it'll be in the next edition. The shortened season, that is...not the pet unicorns. Wink

I can't believe that the ama doesn't have a rule to cover what happens when a 17 round series is suddenly halted after 10 rounds.

With the multiple times that this or something even remotely similar has happened it is a remarkable failure in leadership and foresight to not have this covered by a specific rule.

In addition it appears that the proper usage of an asterisk and the criteria necessary for it to be used is not even mentioned in the ama rulebook.

I wonder if they have any recommendations on the proper way to use sarcasm.

Nobody has any idea how long this social distancing needs to last. I think any announcement other than "Supercross is canceled for the rest of 2020" would only be a tentative plan at best.

It's about time we got to the real issue surrounding Supercross.... those damned pet unicorns. I hear the one Roczen brings to the track poops out rainbow-colored soft serve. It's disgusting.

The only thing we know for sure is no one knows when racing will return. Day by day.

I heard someone say that 70% was needed but have never seen anything in writing.

It is probably just up to the current staff at the AMA (and teams/promoter) to decide what happens.
