Has seen or can share a chart showing the AMA Pro National Purse money ? Hearing some numbers that are pretty low for top 5 finishes but seems impossible to find the actual payout chart.

Purse money means nothing. The top 40 guys get salary, gear money, boot money, goggle money, helmet money, free trucks and free gear and bikes plus travel paid. If they don’t like it they can get a 50hr wk job and make less.

MXSports should be embarrassed to post that. Local thursday night stock car races that bring in 1500 spectators on a good night pays more....

How much does it cost to sign up for a National? Subtract that from any purse money earned.

$250 per race and $350 for the license.

Beats getting a real job now doesn't it. Racing is not a poor mans sport, it takes money to get started and stay involved through your racing career and only a very few will ever get rich and if you do it just to break even then you need to find another career, I know it sounds harsh but its the way it is. There is no shortage of high dollar rigs in the pits at local tracks across the country, but if you really want to spend some cash take up car racing.

Because racing Pro Motocross is a dream few people ever achieve. Its like a drug you can never get enough of. Only trying to get a better result.

Maybe 2 to 5 privateer is probably making a small profit at the end of weekend if that. Mxsports and AMA need to increase the payout. Also the manufactures purse needs to be bumped up by $100 to $250. It’s sad when my local MTB series pays out better than two top 20 finishes.

I am coming late to this party, but if this above is the purse today? my question is what does it cost to sign up to race a pro event.

If for instance it's 250.00 per entry, and there is 120 entries.

then that is 30k.

the purse above is 35k

sure we are not talking about a semi-pro local race here?

hmmmmmmmmmmm.

No one ever started racing motocross to make money and very few ever will , but do it as long as you can and enjoy it.

Oh I get the dream for sure. But when you are passing up money races 2k or better makes no sense whatsoever. Mx sports needs to come up with something better to help those guys up filling up the gates weekly.

Top40 you’re dreaming! Only the top10 outdoors makes good money from their salaries and bonuses.
You don’t make make money racing outdoors if you aren’t on a factory team pretty much.
I have privateer friends that lineup for a few rounds, some scored points and some almost and it’s not worth it if you’re going to make money... lol
Supercross Prize money is a bit better but not crazy.
My friend was making every main in 250 SX East for his rookie year and he still had to pay for his boots.

Listen and understand. MX Sports might send out the checks but the tracks put up the purse money and that is on top of the fee they have to pay to MX Sports just to have the race. Plus the tracks own cost to do the race from equipment to porta potties to staff and other rentals for the race.
My opinion is cut back on repeater and girders at jumps except the finish. This year was turned upside down so things were different.
My own personal opinion is the show is the riders so cut entry fees.
TV on 1 week delay for local television so more people attended an event.
Lower ticket prices to make it more attractive for people to attend.
Open pits so riders can enjoy it like they are a part of the show(this means more security).
One thing I have always asked why is a track paying an outside party to hold an event when these tracks hold large events all year long and they manage it fine. Track gets increased profit and riders get increased purse.
Remember these are my opinions only and not that of anyone else. I am not speaking for anyone else.

I agree with most of what you are saying except the 1 week delayed TV.

It would be interesting to see the true financials for FELD or MX Sports for the nationals and SX. I won't pretend to know what all goes in behind hosting an event (costs), but I would think at the end of the day they are both doing very well.

Supply and demand, folks. As soon as fewer people start showing up to race, the AMA will start paying more. As long as there are hopefuls willing to line up and pay to race, nothing will change.

Falcon did you not read the Tracks pay the purse not AMA. Let the entry fee go also towards the purse and encourage more riders to attend. The Tracks pay AMA to be there and that is another cost.
