How likely is it that they can actually compete in -18?
Durham has been putting in some SX training on his redshift, but for what?
Have they applied for a chance to get their bikes legal for competition?

To the best of my knowledge the Alta is not legal for AMA competition. So no ALTA at A1.

They can't even consider getting eligibility if they can't pass homologation rules. Does anyone know if they have met that mark yet?

I think he's testing in preperation for some of the oversees SX races - Paris, Geneva, etc.

He was mentioned in the press release for the Paris SX

They've said that they are going to do some European sx races. Probably will do Straight Rhythm too. Who knows even MEC

How does an Alta compare to a factory 250? No way that things as powerful/fast as a factory 250.
That thing has like 130 lbs of Tork. It will

These electric motors can easily be made just as or more powerful than a ice motor. The challenge is weight, packaging and battery life. Alta is already in the ballpark with everything except cost. If the power delivery on these bikes is anything like the Chevy Bolt I got to drive for a few days recently the ice bikes days are numbered imho.

No, no it wont.

I watched the straight rhythm last year and you could see the bike was down on power to the 250's. Plus the Alta only has one gear....so the 120 lb/ft or torque is not really a straight up comparison.

Its already better, in some ways. Next model will be better in half the ways, still lacking in other half. 3rd gen will be better in most ways. 4th gen, say goodbye to ice.

A year of R&D and normal stop/start racing conditions, instead of straight line speed, creates a large window of standard deviation to compare performance when using that as an example.

We'll get our answer over the next few months.

Mine is number 88, so if they havent made enough, they are certainly close.

I wasn't into the sport when it switched from 2 stroke to 4. I think my first bike was in 2006 I believe. I mean I watched supercross as a kid and knew that the change was coming I just wasn't as involved with the sport as I am now.... Is this what it was like with the passing of the torch back then from 2t to 4t? When I first heard of the Alta's I honestly thought it would be nothing but a novelty bike. Over the past year and reading reviews on here, it is a very strong possibility that I might own one of these in the future. I'm going wait for the new to wear off and the tech to increase & price decrease, but I could definitely see one of these in my garage one day. Never thought I would say that lol

I agree DYE. I can see one in my stable at some time in the future. My problem, other than a first model year, is the dealer network. Or lack thereof. I like walking into a dealership, chewing the fat, and picking up a set of motor brushes (E talk LOL). Nothing even remotely close to me.

I did tell a couple local dealers that if they became an Alta dealer I would buy the first one. Not even a bite. Sad.

I think I will call ALTA & see if I can become a dealer...

I could see a situation where power isn’t the issue but rather the lack of R & D for chassis and suspension compared to the big 4 (6).

I think the Alta's are pretty cool, and this is a little off topic but I'm just not sure it's what the sport needs right now. I mean as it stands I don't think we're in a very healthy spot and I think a lot of that stems from the cost of everything and I have a hard time believing that the Alta will end up being cheaper than a current new four stroke. I'm not for or against it, it's a really cool bike and obviously has it's place but I just find it odd that I see people saying how great it would be to go back to 2 strokes because they're so cheap than they turn around and say the $15,000 bike is the answer. IMO until we can bring the cost of these bikes down drastically I don't think much will change, and unfortunately I just don't think the Alta will be the one to do that.

I suspect we will know whether their application for homologation will be accepted at the MEC when the other changes are announced.

I think they passed homologation and are allowed in the 250s. Seems like I just read this. I'll have to search it out.

Negative. It's highly unlikely you will see one outside of the straight rhythm and maybe monster cup

What is this "Tork" you speak of?

No they are not, it was North American eligibility and I'm not sure how it works out but that doesn't include SX and the US Nationals.

I'm thinking Straight Rhythm would be the perfect venue for the Alta. The right map, the right gearing, holeshot guaranteed. No worries about the depleted batteries either. Will they be at A1? No chance.

On the plus side, they should be able to pass the Sound Test, no problem!

That was a year ago. In the tech world probably that's probably as good as 3 years of regular moto progress. I could be wrong.
