After wrapping up an interview with him for taking our Racer of the Year award (it’s uploading now), I asked him about the difference between riding the 250 and 450. He was around 170 pounds last summer, and said he had to ride the 250 at 110%. That meant the front would often be light as he was hitting jumps, which sometimes led to unintended direction changes.

On the 450? He figures he rides it at about 70%.

It’s going to be interesting to watch him this season. He’s got a good attitude, and is looking at the long game.

This should be good! I ride a 250 and also a 450. I love to hear the pro riders opinions on this stuff. Looking forward to it

I think he will do just fine on a 450. I think he can ride a gear higher and more in his comfort zone. I see him top 5 for sure in his rookie campaign

Thanks GuyB, this is insight you can’t get usually and it’s straight from the source.

So he’ll be the same as he’s always been you might say....

Yeah he’s a bigger dude like me, I’m 6’3 and that extra hp is gonna do him well. It takes a lot of energy to move around on the bike when you’re tall.

He used the twinwalls before, not the 7/8ths bar. You would have to be mental to run those at the speed they are going.

What’s wrong with using a twinwall at their speeds?
I’m just curious.

He's talking about the 7/8" bars.

In danger of melting due to air friction, like space shuttle on re-entry.

I believe he means to use the 7/8 due to higher speeds and more likely to bend the thinner bar.

Was thinking the same thing & predict he will be about top 5 in points at the end of the season. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins a race or 2 in his rookie debut.

That's how I interpreted it as well.
