They're looking at a second date in mid-to-late September at a track to be named.

They should have been easy to spot.

I'd like to see it a Unadilla myself. Love that track.

True! It´s just that I´d like to get that "roughest sand track" discussion out of the way. It´s getting old ;-)

I mentioned the two tracks I'd heard of previously, and was told, "It's not the tracks you think."

Wasn't Washougal having issues with MX Sports? Maybe them. Although I wouldn't expect two West Coast rounds.

Heck of a nice track, and a bit more like the GP tracks than the others.

If the GP had a large turn out I could see another US promoter saying yes to running a GP. But with the lack of turn out in a place like glen helen and all its history is a huge blow. The money they had to pay to get the race along with all the overhead. I would think long and hard before committing to the GP's. With the economy, lack of US riders and a bad start its a big gamble.

If YS is set on using a car track I bet the Sat. night track in my town will be available. I'm pretty sure it can accomodate more people than I saw on the webcast today.

I'm not sure it'd be a huge issue - the lack of promotion, costs, date and the fact it was the first USGP for a while were against this one doing well.

The turnout will probably be much better next year.

Different type of event but didn't the McGrath Invitational have a low turnout? I guess that had lots of promotion so maybe it's a first year thing.

I have enough room in my back yard for the spectators who showed up for this one. I can't imagine another promoter trying to make the numbers work after this turnout.

Last I remember the McGrath race is no longer happening......

You maybe right and next year will have a larger turn out, they might break even. Or they may loose even more money caues the economy gets worse......who knows it a big gamble with a lot of money.

It was the first event and they had like what, 30days notice?

I doubt anyone really expected a big turnout. BTW, I was there and it sure was nice without the drunken idiots everywhere!

Sure. I was more making the point the first year = low turnout.

Given the five year USGP contract we should have a chance to see what happens next year, unlike with the M.I.

You really can't say that there was a lack of advertising, the race was still held on the same weekend it would have been if the nats were there. People decided not to come because it wasn't a nat, plain and simple.

Didnd DC say High Point was being dropped from the national schedule? Would make sence for HP the get a GP so they can get the MXoN.

But surely given more time and prior knowledge of US rider involvement they could have really played up the USA versus the world aspect, which would attract more normal people (as opposed to just us crazy MX fans).

Most of those people probably just heard that the national was cancelled and thought there wasn't a race.

This is just me guessing of course.

I am sure if we were to run a National in Europe the outcome would be the same if none of the Euros showed up to race. It would also be a losing proposition if the promoter had to pay a huge fee to hold the National and pay a purse on top. It just seems to me that the GP's work great in Europe and the Nationals work great here because it the system everyone is used to. Nothing more nothing less.

Let it be at Gatorback, that would be the best.

Having a second GP would be great. But NOT in September. If the points battle is wrapped up, what Euro Teams will spend the money to come over here? It's gotta be early in the season. JMO.

I heard the main lady flew out west for the race, but I never thought it would be for recruiting purposes. Good deal.

They would have a huge turnout somewhere in Texas or the southeast where the fans don't have any nationals to go to.

East coast and I will bring South Florida with me. Gatorback could handle it as it did for nationals for 20 plus years but I will be there anywhere on the east coast. When I first started watching GPs on FreecasterTV a few years ago the racing was really close and the tracks were really good in a time when we had run aways and the racing was predictable in our series for the most part and the GP racing was action packed. I started craving the next race just like I do our Nats because I love a race. During that time I learned more about the riders and really respect them and don't see why with a little more advertising it couldn't have a really good turnout. They just need to market it well and get the word out.
