A day at the races on a RM125

Here's a video of a full day getting ready for my first race on a dirt bike in 12 years. Riding on a high level when I was younger winning a lot of races in Holland I was forced to quit racing. Now 12 years later at the age of 27 I bought myself a 2004 RM125, planning to just ride and have fun, no races.

Well, as you can see in this video this didn't really work out and after only riding the bike 5 times I decided to race my first race again, just to have fun and see where my speed was at. My aim was top 7 and I got 7th in both heat, so I'm reasonably happy with that. Living on a boat in the centre of Amsterdam doesn't make things any easier and that's what I wanted to show in this video. Also all the years of living in holiday resorts in the snow and sunshine with the additional partying have caught up with me so I was struggling to make it to the end of my heats. After a pretty horrible jump out of the gate I just threw my elbows into the first corner and still had a decent start. In the end it all doesn't matter anyway because I had a blast!

I hope you guys enjoy the video and any feedback is more than welcome! Thanks

Cool.

You were aggressive in those first few turns.... The guy on the KTM in front of you looked sketchy...The dirt looked awesome.

Looked like a lot of fun. Love the sound of a 125 two stroke.

Thanks for posting!!! Love this kind of videos.

Even after all that, its still worth it!

I got kind of the same situation, raced when i was younger(27 now), didn't touch a bike for 8 years, 2months ago i bought myself a 125cc suzuki -04. I live in the city so the bike is at my parents house. I don't have to take the train tho, i just need to drive 10mins.

But i cant wash my bike at my parents so i have to drive the bike to a carwash every time.

But as i said earlier, STILL WORTH IT!

Great thread. This is what it's all about.
The rm sounds crisp.
I think If I was living on a boat in Amsterdam I'd have a tough time racing as well.

This was a race on a Wednesday, so they do it later, works better for me because of the long travel!

Just an observation, it seemed like you had the clutch in A LOT? You were riding well, rode aggressive for being out of the game for so long.

Very nice video and nice riding considering the long absence. The most congested pits I've ever seen!

Awesome video. I'd say you know how to moto pretty damn well.

excellent job, I'm impressed with how much extra it takes for you just to get to the track.

2 different trains, then load up and go. Keep it fun and this will be a great adventure for you.

It didn't seem like it was holding you back, but I watched the video at work with no sound, so it's hard for me to say if it was excessive. This is coming from someone that more than likely could not hang with you on an MX track, just observing haha

MCC Baarle-Nassau-Hertog smile

i live like 10 minutes away from there, i often go there and watch when i have a bit of free time inbetween stuff.

It makes me really appreciate how easy I have it. Go out front door, grab bike, load on trailer, drive anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hrs and have my choice of about 6 killer tracks. Glad you are back in the sport, best of luck to you!
