I've just got back into riding after 2 years off and riding 3 - 4 times a week again now on the new 350sxf, I was going to go buy a new 125SX next week just to play around on as well.

One of my mates has a old 1998 KX125 blown up sitting in his shed for $800 AUD ( $620 USD ) what were the 98 KX125's like? Worth buying and throwing some $$ into it for a play 125?

Its a 20 year old blown up bike. Not saying it wouldn't be worth it but it'll probably take a while to gather up parts. Estimate what you'd have to spend to get it running and replacing anything else, add the time it will take as well. You may be better off buying a more recent 125.

Where u are that's cheap. Is a good low end motor. Some port work a pipe will be better than any Chinese garbage that's for sure.

Price is too good to pass up, but IF I remeber correctly, those were the years, when KX gears were made of play-doh.

I had that exact bike and it never gave me any problems. I have no idea what kind of condition your buddies is in or how long its been sitting but if you could get it running for cheap, get rid of the old steel bars and slap some Renthals on it, it could be a good play bike.

I had an 02 Kx125 and had the most problems out of any bike I've been around.. obviously I mightve just gotten ahold of a bad one but I always steer clear of the green 125s. If found a Yamaha for cheap, parts would be more readily available and most likely cheaper.

I had a 98 KX125 back in the day. Great bike, reliable. If it's in great shape go for it.
