I’m 42 and ride a 2016 yz250F but I rode a 2020 at a Yamaha demo day and it was really good. Turned way better and felt more flickable. My 16 has JGR linkage and it’s still not as good. The 450 actually turned really good too but I’d be dead for sure with that kinda power.

I’m 48 with a ‘19 YZ250F. I always likes riding 125s and never really jelled with 250 2 strokes and never gave 450s a chance. I did have a 350sxf for 2 years but prefer the 250f

If I was buying I'd get a 2020 250fx or a newer 350xc-f

57 and racing a YZ125. Tons of fun, and won't allow you to get lazy.

47 and I just got off the YZ 250F train, at least for a while. I was never happy with the handling of mine. I'm on a 17.5 KTM 450 now, it's the same weight as that YZ and I feel like I can control it just as well. Plus it turns so much better. I wanted a 350 but couldn't find any in the price range I wanted. I really enjoyed my two years on the 250F though. I think a YZ engine in a CRF chassis would be the dream 250, but Honda can't seem to figure that out...

56. Raced my 2008 YZ250F on the weekend.
Wish I could justify a new MX bike. (It really wouldn’t take much)

I haven’t ridden a 2020 model, but have ridden maybe 2016 YZ250F and 2017 KTM350SX (and the 450 and the 125)

If I was focused on results (I’d be disappointed based on my recent performance.) I’d buy a 350SX/FC, a new YZ250F would be a close second.

For fun, I think the 125 2T

62 here....I have a 19' YZ250F and couldn't be happier. I've had the 18' and a couple older versions too. I've also had most every other bike as well including the 350. For me no better stable ride out of the box.

What kind of tracks do you ride? If you’re riding in firmer dirt probably like the 250F. Less torque of the 250 compared to 450 in deep soil/sand means you have to keep momentum, run the wider line. Square corners and run and gun and a 250F will feel like it’s making noise and going nowhere.

I’ve seen older guys turn quicker lap times on the 250F, run more laps, be less tired, have more fun.

My personal experience is that with the right dirt, right track layout I am faster on 250F vs. 450... and can seemingly put down hard laps forever. But those situations are few. The hamburger helper 450 always gets the job done.

A big bore 250F or 350F, hmm... whatever you get don’t sell that 450!

65 and riding an ‘04 200exc. It is good, but I kind of wish I had e-start. And a newer 250f or 350f. Must be getting old? 🙄😁

Bullshit, I'm 62 and it's my racer. But I'm more of a rider these days and that peashooter gives me no problem to get onto the gate and chase them in for some awesome site seeing laps.Cool

I'll also say I'm parking the 125 to backup racer. I have little money into an 07 rmz450 that maybe has one moto on it. Original and almost as worn as coming off the ship...minus a few nipples missing from it sneakers "yet 13 yr tire" .
Such a pleasant bike to work a track as fast as I shouldn't be going...but it helps to keep it there.
That 125 works well but you have to work hard to be there
When you need to gamble with being your best that smooth hard pulling 450 is where you (I) invest your insurance

one of my customers is about 50 on a 19 yz250f he started motocross about 45 years of age. makes him so happy. he drops his bike off at my shop every 5-10 hours for me to take care of it. wants it perfect at all times like its one of my personal racebikes so the bike gets a full race prep pretty much every 10 hours. ive ridden it after i set up his suspension for 200lbs (about same size as me) one of the best bikes i have ever ridden honeslty. so forgiving and smooth

I am only 32, but it's the perfect bike to me. Plenty of torque, but it will not wear you out or get you in sketchy situations like a 450 will. I am also 160 pounds, so I don't feel like I need the extra power of the 450.

You may want to look into a 250FX as well, you can moto or trail ride it, I think the crosscountry style of bikes are probably better for the vast majority of riders.

Over 50 here... Your 450 has tons more power, especially at the bottom end, will you miss that? Otherwise, the 250 is much less tiring to ride....

Absolutely! Unless you're super heavy. As others have stated, the YZ250FX is a good option, too.
