Hello guys , just wondering how many of you have gone to 2 stroke from a 450. My sons is wanting to go back on to a 2 stroke from his yzf450. He’s a big guy so I don’t know if it’s a good idea. Any advice greatly appreciated
I love the token sound of a pinned 250t, but to have one as your main steed isn’t recommended.
The Shop
I was at an open practice yesterday and i took the 250 out for the first session.... that was the only time I rode it all day lol. Ive ridden at this track for a few years, so it wasnt anything new to me.
When i orignally first bought the 250, i had thoughts of just selling my old 450 and not buying another one. In retrospect, im glad I still bought another 450.
My take:
I grew up riding two strokes. Wasn’t until I was 15 that I got onto a 4 stroke. I still ride my dads 250 2 stroke here and there and always had a blast. At points where I didn’t have a bike, back to that 250 I went. Also had a 125 and one point until I had to sell it. My main bike was always a 4 stroke, but I always went back to the 250 smoker when I didn’t have a bike. So for me, I always loved the smokers and felt at home on them when I did ride one.
Anyways, I’m 2018 I sold my 14 YZ450 because I wanted a YZ250 so bad and found a great deal from another Vital member for his 2005 YZ. That bike is by far my favorite bike that I’ve ever owned. Had to sell it to pay bills unfortunately, but I still get bummed every time I think about that bike. It was amazing and I instantly felt great on it. I currently have a 98 that I’m building because I miss the 05 so bad. I still have a 450 to ride, but after riding the 250 I really realized how much I dislike riding a 450.
Now with that said, I can understand why people don’t like 2 strokes when it is a bike they have never ridden or have very little experience with. They aren’t for everyone, but they are for me!
I am not such a person. I'll never own another 4-banger.
I made the decision to go to a 250 2 stroke back in 2012 and have never looked back. Since then I have spent a LOT of time on 4 strokes (magazine/press/loaners/friends) bikes and have no desire to ever have a 450 mx bike.
Modern TC250s & 250SXs are amazing bikes, incredibly lightweight, and easy to work on. I have some long and detailed breakdowns of the "2 v 4 stroke" argument in my post history if you'd like to dig in further.
Kinda like a blonde and a redhead lol,
I went form a 250t to a 450, there are times I really like the 450, and at other times I miss the 250t!
There are advantages & disadvantages to each, ya just have to pic witch works for you at the time! Tomorrow you may want something different!
And women always change hair color anyway! Lol
Currently have an 18 Rmz450 and a 97 Yz125.
I could go for a 250f but I just feel like I would rather have another 2 stroke that’s easier to work on, sounds good, smells good, and pair with my 125
Picked up an awesome 2006 RC replica RM 250 and fell in love with it and the sport again. Bought a new Husky 125 and 250 , and come to find out....I was faster on them in longer Moto's , then I was on the 450's.
Bottom line....the 450's wore me out , where my TC 125 and 250 were just Better race bikes for me. Could ride much harder / aggressive , for much longer on both of them , then I ever could a 450. I don't need / want that type of power under me any more , at my age , in long Moto's. Never regretted making that switch back.
Pit Row
OP, if you or your son are in the position to keep the 450 and pick up a 2 stroke as well, that really is the way to go. Best of both worlds.
