Been working on my sons 250F, the Carb to be specific. WTF do we need wires coming out of our carbs for?
Damn 4 strokes are almost as bad as that damn Cobra I bought.

It's the dirtbike equivalent to smog carbs on cars in the early 80's, just before FI arrived.
They sucked then, and they suck today.

Tip- 2 stroke carbs are much simpler, even if they have a wire attached, but you already knew that. Wink

Those wires activate the powerband controller.

Nothing like a smog carb at all really. The carb on a 4 stroke is not any more difficult to work on than a 2 stroke. They are a ton harder to get off the bike. Actually, as far as jetting goes, I think they are a lot easier. There are more parts and cable connections but once you've been in one, you've been in them all.

you must not have seen a newer 2 stroke... they have wires as well.
Oh I have seen them and owned them, just never had to work on them.

The carb on a XR80 is every bit as simple as a 2-stroke carb, but the FCR's have a whole lot more going on than any pinger carb I've seen, even those with a single TPS sensor. My comparison to an 80's smog carb was stretching it a little bit though...

What was hunky's quote? something like they could have chosen a Bing or a brick with a hole in it and they made the wrong choice.
