What year do these guys start making an off road 2 stroke?

I don't see Yamaha changing the X until people stop buying what they offer now.
I don't think Honda ever makes another 2stk.

I believe a Yamaha YZ300X would sell like hot cakes. Add e-start and a wide ratio 6 speed transmission (maybe a hydro clutch?) and you have a blue KTM. But people would buy them no doubt.

The problem is, Yamaha sells every YZ250X that they make... and they are able to utilize low manufacturing costs due to the bike being practically unchanged for years. This is probably more profitable then going balls deep making a new bike and hoping people buy it over an orange one.

According to the Yamaha guys that were on the Pulp show a couple weeks ago sounds like some upgrades are in the works.

For anyone but Yamaha and Euro brands maybe. All but confirmed that it’d be a YZ250X with a head light etc if I remember correctly

If Yamaha made a 300x two stroke, they’d sell everyone they made...easy. I really want a 300, but don’t want a KTM for the air forks. So I’ll either buy a 450fx or a 250x.

Fyi...KTM’s XC-W and Husky’s TE line up have Spring forks.

The 300 doesn't have air forks. Almost positive.

The 300 XC does (XCw doesn’t though). But I don’t want the XCW.

I have the GasGas 300 enduro with spring forks. And i really love it. Alot of bottom-mid range power and handles great.

Comes stock with FMF pipe and silencer.

Stock 300 2 stroke with spring forks = Gas Gas. The AER stuff really isn't bad. but when youre coming from 4CS, anything is better. Spring forks are still the easiest to get dialed for a weekend warrior.

I'm not at all interested in a Boutique brand (of which I consider Gas Gas and Beta). Though I know a lot of guys that really like them both.

Don’t be scared of something different! Of course that’s easy for me to say as a trials rider and have had probably about as many “exotic” bikes as mainstream bikes.

My son just got a TM 300. It’s blue and has KYB so it’s almost like a Yamaha?

Seriously though I don’t normally make these kinds of claims, but the 2019 TM 300 has the best 2t motor I have ever ridden! Electric start and counter balancer finish it off nicely. The rest of the bike is awesome too?. Once you ride these kinds of bikes you won’t care if the Japanese ever make a 300.

I'm guessing that if Yamaha made a YZ300X it would be the YZ250X with a big bore kit (just like the KTM 300 XC is a 250 XC with a big bore kit). Wouldn't be difficult or costly for them at all, and I bet that they'd be very popular.

I too am interested in the XC but never considered the air fork as a deal breaker. Are they that bad for weekend racers, not to be able to get a decent enough setting?
All over the country in xc races these bikes dominate in numbers. I have heard good and bad on the forks but what is your deal breaker reason for not going with them other than they are air forks! Are they not reliable? Seriously i'm looking at a 300 as well.
Off topic a little but were the updates from 18-19 on the 300xc significant? I know they stiffened the frame and reposition the motor, also updated exhaust and larger fuel tank. The 18 is 1k cheaper plus the orange frame is cool. Whats the thinking between the two yrs?
Thanks

I went from a Yamaha to a KTM and was really worried about the AER forks but was pleasantly surprised at how much of a non-issue they turned out to be (at least so far).

I have a TX300 and I like the forks on the bike. I have owned most brands out there and this is the first set of suspension I have been comfortable enough to not get them re-valved. I race the 30+B class in moto and Sportsman Expert in off road and in stock form they are good enough for me.

It's not so much that the air forks on the KTM are bad, they are fine...its just that the KYB SSS on the Yamaha are so good!

Most of the guys I ride with that have the 250x or 450fx yamaha's...are running stock valving in their forks. Every person I ride with that has the new KTM air forks, have had to have them revalved.

I've got Air forks on my current KX...and the are alright...a huge step back from the YZ I had before it, but they are okay-better than I expected them to be. (for what its worth, the KTM air forks are much better than the KX air forks).

Pretty sure the 300's are the top seller for every manufacturer that makes them.

Just a conspiracy theory, but maybe the Japs cut a deal not to make them if the AMA "blackballed" 2t's in Moto? It just makes no sense not to offer 300's when they are best sellers.

Almost forgot, Beta is the new KTM.

Who wants to spend over $10K on a new 300 XC, and then have to spend however much that costs ($1K to $2K I'm assuming) to make the suspension right? I know the KTM loyalists will...but I don't have that much loyalty to any brand. I'll just buy a bike with better suspension.

Point taken… over here the KTM 300 EXC-TPI 2019 cost € 11.320,-* ☹️…I have high hopes for the Honda 450L…
it only need to go on diet and gain some hp ( 30.000 km first major service ) that’s a 2 stroke killer…

btw Sooner or later the 2 strokes will not pass the stronger European emission standards…
It’s not a Honda conspiracy against 2 strokes, blame the EU.

From most guys that have the newer KTM 300, fixes are:
Cut Head
Change Reeds
New Carb, rejet,, (non EFI)
Only $11000.00 plus fixes.

I have one and that is a metric load of BS.

-My bike is a 2018 300XC which was bought this summer.....and I paid $8600 OTD with a title AND a license plate....MSRP is $9299...not EleVeN THouSAnD
-Reeds were fixed after 2017
-I dialed my bike in with the provided jets and needles
-Everyone who has ridden my 300 has nearly broken their zippers from the boner inducing ride
-Two of my bros are selling their current four strokes to go to a 300 after riding my bike
-My old man will be 70 in three weeks and has sold his 350 to buy one...it is that smooth and easy
-Cutting the head is not even in question for anyone that I know with the bike...pointless mod IMO

People are too lazy to take a day and jet their bikes correctly. They want to go online and ask Thunpertalk bros for ideal jetting specs. Sadly all bikes are different, as are riding conditions. The OEM Mikunis caught a bad rep because most guys do not know how to jet a bike or are too lazy to try different settings. Albeit the 2018’s were much improved base settings compared to the ‘17s

Suspension is bone stock, and have no plans on changing it.
