Why are there so many classes now days? Someone on here over 30 tell me you care what place you get. Going home no trophy are you really going to care?
Some of these classes will have like 2 people in them and they keep having the class year after year

What do you ride? C or D?

I'll probably go in novice so I'm actually racing more than 2 other guys

I once knew a guy that hired a personal trainer so he would have a better chance of winning the 25 and 30+ C\D class. He even would leave after the first motos if he wasn’t gonna be top 3 once in a while.

They’re out there

|

3/17/2021 8:21 PM

Sometimes I leave after the first moto because I have to work in the morning and there still 50 class left to race.

|

3/17/2021 8:28 PM

I don’t really care about my results, and I’m not going as fast as I used to so I race 30B, (will be 40B in October), I’d rather be at the back of B instead of win C, I don’t want to be on the gate with C/D class guys, they are sketch off the starts and just make bad decisions.

|

3/17/2021 8:28 PM

I personally don’t care about the trophies anymore, I would rather have 15-20 people to race against and get mid pack than having 5 people To race and get first or second

|

3/17/2021 8:31 PM

I kinda like racing against guys similar in skill these days.

It also would have been interesting to have 70 guys at multiple skill levels on the track at the same time at the 2 stroke nationals last year in the 30+ class. No thanks.

I don’t know how they do it for you guys, but out here they usually do 2 gates/classes per moto for the vet classes. One of my biggest issues with classes are the minis. Some swap moto races have 5-6 50, 60 and 85/Supermini classes.

Every moto ought to be a full gate.

I would agree that races like the 2 stroke nationals may require the splitting of skill level. The local track that has 5 guys in the Vet 30 or 40 or 50 shouldn't be concerned with splitting classes and this is coming from a 50+ slow B racer. I always have to shake my head when I hear the local Vet C guys trying to convince promoters to split Vet classes.

And I to have seen the local Vet C rider load up and go home after the first moto because they didn't win. Again I just shake my head in disbelief.

So I would agree splitting Vet classes at the local track is stupid.

They need to get rid of all those classes and have a; I need to go to work tomorrow class.

Everyone would show respect
Hold their line
No elbows
Check up for guys who don't send it

Beers after if everyone makes it out

Truth is if your over 40 and still riding moto, have a loving wife you want to bang every night, and good kids, you've already won at life.

Here's a typical OTHG race schedule here in SoCal. Those first 2 were freebie 3 lap dashes. Race 1 was all ages (30+) intermediate and up (yes the word intermediate was missing), Race 2 Beginner and Novice. Gates were huge and it was just for fun.

The rest are the normal classes/races. Notice the stacking of gates. No moments of "2 people on the gate". The club makes sure you're racing a good group of people.

It's a vet club and I think this gets the job done. Notice the motos are 16-20 mins + 1 lap too. The age groups are also divided differently than most other series/clubs.

I'm going to look you guys up and show up to some races! Those are long motos compared to the races I've entered the last few years. Love it!

I'm in it to win it. Yes, I care what place I take, but more than that, I care that I'm progressing, and ride my very best, every time I line up. I'm pretty much a C/D rider. When I start winning, I'll move up to the next class.

Having as many riders in my class as possible is always more fun.

I don’t give a shit about a trophy I usually don’t even pick them up. What I want is a good challenging race that pushes me and to not be at the track until dark on a Sunday. The endless 50/65/85 classes seems to keep that last part from happening fairly often.

The amount of classes are just ridiculous. That's why we are professional practicers. We have fun and get to ride more than 10 minutes.

Get a litpro and race yourself. Save a lot of money and probably a few trips to the hospital.

|

Local racing is dying due to the excess amount of classes.

The vet classrs pay the bills is what im told.

I've raced Highpoint, before they changed the start, when we had a full gate in plus 40.

Go to a vet race and observe the difference in speed between the 50 experts and the 50 novices, it might and day.

Mix them up and somebody is getting hurt.

Yes this is a problem for me as well.

It's growing in my area. 390 at last race.

Take it to the limit, one more time!

Here's my take -- if you normally have 120 riders over the age of 30 at your event, by all means, split them up with skill levels and five year age brackets. If you have 10, it's completely ridiculous. The whole reason in my mind to have so many classes is if you have so many people your gates are full.

Personally, I'm onboard with the model of + 30 A/B and C/D, then + 40 A/B and C/D. These can always be run together and scored separately, of course. My rationale: I just want more vets out there participating. It seems like there is a serious crowd that actually trains and practices, then another gang that are just practice riders. Look at any practice day, there are tons of them. I want to see more vet racers on the gate even if they aren't scored with me in A/B, so opening a C/D to encourage true weekend warriors to get out and race seems to make sense.

Here in SC we run the five year age brackets with no skill levels. It's silly to me because I don't think you see that much difference in physical performance at five year intervals. For the same amount of classes, I'd much rather open up C/D versions and maybe see more riders out there, even if I don't directly benefit from it.

But I'm also be just fine with +30, +40, +50 if you only have a handful of riders, as is often the case.

I agree with the number of classes thing.. but why is it wrong for people to care about what place they come in? Isnt the point of participating in a sport to win?

It’s fun and laid back. I’ve only had the chance to race with them once, but I can’t wait to race with them again. The whole environment is awesome. I enjoy being able to come off the track and BS with the dude I just battled with the entire moto and that’s exactly what happened after both motos when I raced with OTHG. Plus the races were completely over by 2pm.

I think I like the +30 (which is basically without a designation).and 30 B/C. My reason is this.. There are some ex pro or ex super fast guys that show up that have never quit riding. They're riding better than they once did in their A class days. You put a guy like "loretta's racer"" +30 guy on a gate with "rides once a month gotta work Monday +30 guy", it can be sketchy. Staggered starts helps most of the time though, but that's not adding extra motos.. I'm kind of in the middle these days, so I don't really care, but I completely get it after being on the track with both types of racers.

I don't care about a trophy really as I've thrown more away than I've kept through the years. However, I do like the feeling of doing well. I got a 10th and 11th at Daytona. I was more pumped on the 11th in the regular +30 (one spot out of "trophy") than the 10th I got in the other class. Mainly because I fell in the first corner and should have done better. I did trophy in that class, but, they ran out and I didn't even get one.. lol

There's really two catagories. National level vet racers and local vet racers.

If you're not over 25, you may not be able to wrap your head around it because you're still full of piss and vinegar. Something happens at 25, then definitely again at 30.. lol.. most plus 25 guys at the front are competitive in A or B.. Don't see that as often with +30 guys unless you're like Andrew Matusek.
