If you’re new to the sport, Marty was the first American hero of motocross. Watch or listen this Friday!

Marty made a massive impact on growing the sport, if you were a teenager in the 70' you wanted to be him...he was a chick magnet. He had a smooth style and lightening fast.

The other guy is known for obtaining a boat load of Oakley stock options. Factory Yamaha rider "Too Tall" Mike Bell!

Can't wait to hear this.

Z-boys!! I have not thought about that in a long time. MX and skateboarding were the ultimate SoCal 70's cool.

Damn. I miss those days, could not wait for the magazine to arrive in the mail box to see how everyone did. These kids have it so easy these days as a fan..

Yes, Too Tall would be great!

Ask Marty about his 'Holeshot' vitamins. I bought some from him way back when.

With the order, he sent me a nice letter and an autographed picture. Pretty classy on his part!

I think I pulled the holeshot the next week!

Loving the show!! As a euro, I’m always interested in hearing the stories behind why some Americans came to ride the GP series.

Can you pencil in Talon Vohland, Bobby Moore (as he was the last American world champion), Trampas Parker, Bader Mannah, Mike Brown?

Ping. What's the thought process behind some shows being closed sets?

These are shot inside Troy Lee Designs. It's a lot of work to do the live shows correctly and it is also very disruptive to business there. Also, not every guest thrives in front of a live crowd. Some guests relax and open up because they are comfortable just talking with GL and I. If they were all live I don't think we see the candid interviews we have.

The format is to do one live show per month. May 10th we have Deano on, LIVE... that will be fun.

Post to YouTube early! Last week we had to wait until Saturday morning.
That's my only complaint, I can't wait for the next show. Best content available online!

Editing the video takes a long time. And uploading four hours of video to YouTube takes even longer. We always shoot to have it posted Friday morning but, sometimes it takes a little longer.

Dude, these have been absolutely killer. Thanks for putting all the work into them. Some day I’ll have to shoot over from Havasu to catch a live show. Are you planning on keeping it going throughout the nationals?

Btw, cool to hear you speaking about your Christian faith. Seems like a lot of athletes in this sport have stepped up in vocalizing their faith recently.

Yes, we will continue with the shows year-round. We will probably average 40 shows per year.

Ping.....Excellent Show. First that I’ve watched all the way through. I was psyched to hear how excited Marty would get recounting stories. Best line of the show: “once a kid gets a throttle in his hand, it’s over”. In many ways Marty Smith is the same as you and me. A guy that loves riding a dirt bike and having some fun.

I am glad Marty remembered Baldwin.Ks in 1974. Was there at that race.

During Marty’s interview, talking of the 70’s, I found myself wishing Jim Pomeroy were still alive to do your show. He was my moto hero. Keep them coming.

Awesome show...Marty really was a rock star in the day! One thing to keep in mind is that back in the day we only got to know our heroes from print journalism. We never had the chance to really hear their voice and mannerisms!

My first pro race was the Ohio 125 GP in 1976. Marty was having a challenging year and put it to Bob with a double moto win streak. I snuck into the pits as a young kid and watched Marty take off his helmet and after the second moto. He was really irritated and got mad at Warren Reid's step dad for giving him dry wash cloth vs a wet one! As a kid I couldn't understand why he wasn't happy - I get it now....

The one thing that made me smile was his math skills....maybe he shouldn't have missed so much school!!!

Ping: Thanks for interviewing historical icons...
