Looking for a few opinions from folks who have or have ridden both of these bikes. I currently have a 14 250sx and am looking at adding an FC350. I'm 28 race once a month maybe, mid pack Vet speed mx. Been riding awhile but haven't had any 4 strokes besides a 2011 250sxf which I didn't love. I don't think I need a 450 at all but sounds like the 350 has a 250 2t like powerband. I love my 250sx and won't get rid of it but would like to try a smooth 4t out. Basically my question is are the 350 and 250 two stroke similar power wise? Looking for some validation from anyone with similar skill and some experience with these 350s that it's a good choice for a guy who loves 250 two strokes. Thanks

Broader power, higher rpm like 2-stroke, heavier. But, the biggest thing is going from a 14 to 17 or 18.

I'm a 2 stroke guy just rode a new 350 and I felt I spent less time trying to go fast shifting and whatnot I was able to just twist it and use a little clutch

I have a 17 SXF 350 and am coming off of a 2014 SX 250. I only have about 5 hours on the 350, but I really like how easy it is to ride. Spent the last decade on smokers and had a really hard decision going to the 4 stroke.

The bottom end is pretty soft, more so than the SX 250 and of course it builds revs a lot slower than the 250, but that makes it corner better. I have dropped a tooth on the front so as to get to the power a bit quicker, and can pretty much leave it in 2nd or 3rd and just rev it. Without the gear change it would take forever to get to the heart of the power band and I guess I would say I preferred the 2s power. But I do find myself going faster and the power is a bit deceiving, you don't really realize how fast you are going. Seems to me like I am coming into the corners a lot faster on the 350. Actually I love the handling of the 350 so far and feel like I can turn just about anywhere I want to.

I don't really notice too much weight difference and when I first rode a 16 350, it seemed that the mass of the motor was a negative, but thats probably cause I swapped pretty hard on it and high sided. I think in the same situation on my 250 that I would have been able to save it.

Imo for serious racing, get the 350 as it is a bit easier to ride. I am a 40a rider, in good shape but don't ride quite as often as I used to. I think you will find, like dedi684 said, that the 350 will allow you to focus more on the track than shifting, braking, clutching etc.

I am also pretty happy with the AER thus far, but it hasn't really broken in yet, so not sure how it will be longer term. I imagine the new smokers are better handling than the older models because of the forks too.

I had a 2013 250 and have a 2017 ktm 350 now. I hated the 250 because it was hard to ride and the forks suck. I like the 350 because you just twist the throttle and clutch it a bit to get it into the power. It runs like a fast 250f or 125 rather than a 250, and it is smooth and tractable enough to ride it aggressively rather than having to respect the power and worry about shifting like on a 2 stroke. It doesnt give up much to 450s on the straights either.

I rode a '16 KTM 350 and loved that bike, really really fast. I dont know if id want to own a ktm or husky over a jap bike, but ive been thinking about it cause theyre the only companies that offer the 350.

I got a 17 Husky 350 and was on a 250f last year.

The 350 is all I could ask for. Went to a 50 tooth rear sprocket and can run 3rd gear just about every where.

Super easy to ride and I feel like I can ride it a lot longer. I got the ECU remapped and it's even better.

I say go 350 and have fun!!

Read this whole thing, seriously....

I've had them all and currently have:
-13 250SX
-14 150Sx

Get the 350F and race it, and ride it as much as possible. They are WONDERFUL bikes.

So there you have it, 2stroke guy just told you to buy and live the 350F.

Thanks everybody! Once the dealer calls back this morning and if it's still available I'm going to buy it. Very helpful responses and pretty much everything I was hoping to hear. Can't wait. Wish a few more companies made this displacement

I have a 2017 350 SXF, similar skill level to you and I love it. I had a YZ250 two stroke years ago and it was fun but on the track I was more worried about clutching, shifting, braking and trying to not get sketchy over jumps. On the 350 I just ride. I am heavier than probably anyone on here so I have more trouble pulling third gear in the sand but I can rev second gear FOREVER and go as fast as I need to go to jump just about everything at my local track except for the finish line booter (which I don't jump anyways because if I come up short it will be bad).

I don't think you'll be disappointed. If I could add anything else to my arsenal of bikes I'd get an early 1980s YZ125 and a current generation YZ250 and call it a day.

The 350 will be faster and easier to ride than a 250 two stroke.

I own a 16 KTM 350....awesome bike. Came off of Cr250s, that I loved, but being 35 now and not having the stamina and want to rev a bike the whole moto finally caught up to me. The 350 is a really fun bike. As others have said, may want to throw a 50 T rear on the back so you can get to and actually use 3rd gear more. I got some cone valves from Turbojez on here and my own personal touches. Def recommend upgrading the battery , WPS feather weight. Feels much more like a really fast 250F than a slow 450, which is great if you like to rev the bike because it will pull and pull. However, it gets a little tricky at times...I have over jumped alot of stuff that I use to have to hit wide open before on a 250. Good luck and enjoy

I sold my 16 350 to go back to a 250 stroker. I wanted to like the 350, I really did. But I didn't. For the people who think it's like a 250 smoker.. Your on crack. A 250 stroker has more bottom ( yes more bottom) and gets into the meat of the power way quicker. The 350 feels like it takes forever to get to the peak of its power and then your on the limiter. The 350 is just blah until you get above 8000 rpms. That's a lot of wasted piston revolutions for my style.
The 250 stroker is just the opposite with power now. No waiting for 8000rpm.
That wins for me.

My impression from riding my buddy's 350 is that it is like a very high power 125 or 250F. Very smooth and revs really high. Like JWACK said, it doesn't have the instant power that a 250 2-stroke has, which to me is part of the fun.

Having raced against dudes on 350s, they have a definite advantage in they seem to stay hooked up and have less shifting to do overall AND have power similar to a 450.

Also as was stated, there is a significant benefit to the 16+ bikes over the older ones.

There was a very clean used 17 FC350 in the classifieds.

Nice! Be sure to post a ride report when you get some time on it. Which dealer?

Pretty good deal man. Got mine today for $7500 no tax from Nh. One of the deciding factors was I raced the NESC race at crow hill two weeks ago on my 250sx and it tore me up. I'm in good shape and workout everyday but the track was Rough and I was toast. Maybe a 350 will help, maybe not but we'll give it a shot haha

I'm about 5 minutes from motorbikes plus now. Maybe I'll give him a call. Smile
Part of the reason I haven't picked up 1 yet is I don't like to pay tax and mostly buy in nh.

Ok- I'm fairly diverse.. I have around 15-20 hrs on a 17 350. Just picked up a nice 11hr 17' TC250. Dude... If you grew up on a 2 stroke (it's been yrs since I've ridden one) It's worth checking out. Lap times? ..hmm. Maybe a bit better on the 350, but, the 250 is sooo much fun. Instant 'BraP' power, but so much easier to ride than the old two strokes. You'll notice a huge difference from your 14'.

On the other hand, since you're keeping your 14' 2 stroke, I'd probably go with the 350..

Try to ride both, and flip a coin.

I have been planning to go to pick up a '17 350 tomorrow as well, but I have never ridden one. I have ridden a '17 250sx with Lectron carb and that bike was smooooooth and super fun. On the bike, it felt like it weighed 50lbs less than my old '09 kx250f. Now you post this and it reinforces the doubt I'm having about this decision to get a 350. There's a couple of nicely modded used '17 250's for sale in my area. I think I am literally going to have to flip a coin.

Luckily I have a 250sx with lectron too. It's a few years older but gets the job done and has low hours. Best of both worlds hopefully

pirate you and I have probably crossed paths, I ride wareham and crowhill alot.
I had a 13 350sxf and loved the pulling power, the weight was an issue for me...I punted it and bot a 250sx, I believe my corner speed has improved dramatically while speed down the straights definitely suffers....However, I have looked @ lap times, I generally run about a 2:30 @ crowhill on the 350f, I was running 2:22-2:25 on Tuesday. AT southwick my laptimes were about the same on both bikes...I think on a track w/multiple tight turns (wareham, crowhill) the 250 Is faster I believe @ a place like southwick which is less predicated on corner speed the 350f is equal or faster. Again, fwiw I am a slow vet over 50.
Also, if anyone has some good setup tips for the 250sx lmk...currently running jd jet kit (32 pilot, 420 main) blue needle 4 clip down w/a PC 204 silencer

Nice! Wareham would be the track closest to me and I ride crowhill as much as I can. Can't recommend much on the 250sx as mine is. 14 with the keihn, now a lectron. I'll tell you tho, for the money I believe a lectron is a great investment. I don't mess with mine and it's been great. I only paid about $400 for it and all you need to adjust it is a flat blade for the powerject and a 4mm Allen for the rod. Takes about 3 minutes to change jetting. I don't really worry about laptimes, just out to have fun and ride. Hoping this 350 is fun it sure does look sweet.
