Out of KTM, Yamaha, TM and any other brand you can think of. Which one would you choose and why?

TM for a 250, no question. Better bikes all around and most importantly, best looking fenders. Of course the bike I would choose above this would be the KTM150SX, even though I would search for a different looking front fender (orange TM, or older honda fender).

I would choose the ktm because they are continually improving their two strokes and they produce 50 hp wich is insane.

I haven't seen a TM up close, and the Yamaha design is several years old. So in the USA, definitely a KTM.

This ^ is a great choice, I went with a KTM but only because I got a great deal on it. TM would have been my pick otherwise

My apologies, Yota. Kronreif is correct but initially the K stood for Kraftfahrzeug

My 98 was 55.? On the dyno. With Vforce and FMF SST and mild porting on a Dynojet with a nice wide PB. If I can dig up the sheets I'll post em.

Oh by the way that was at 5280 ft above sea level.

MXA rates the KTM over the Yamaha in engine, brakes, clutch and chassis. The only thing it rates better on the YZ is the suspension. so its either spend money on the KTM's suspension to get closer to the YZ or spend money on the YZ to get the motor where the KTM is. Even if you get the same power out of the YZ it is still behind in terms of chassis, brakes and clutch. Plus the KTM looks better.

However the most important factor to consider is if you buy the KTM you are getting a 2012 model, buy the YZ and you get an 06 with different graphics

I think both are good bikes, the main reason I would not buy a KTM is because of the price of parts... a ktm crankshaft is somewhere around 550$ while a yamaha is about 250$. It about the same thing for all the other parts...

I honestly haven't been on the ktm 2smoke or a TM but LOVE my yz.

I put a top end in it at 40-50 hours and other than that I had fork seals leak a little sooner than I would have liked but then had FC revalve the suspension and do new seals and they have been good for the entire season.
