For the record...

I read a few comments about the weight of the KTM350s Wet/Wet weight rating...245 pounds...full of fuel.

That is light! Especially when you realize it carries an honest 2 gallons of fuel at that weight.

This is where some clown spouts off about the CRFs or the YZFs published weight...that's Dry weight, btw...VERY "Dry"...

And I say...

Fill the tank and go weigh that pig!

Have you weighed a 450 before/after it goes out on the track...at...say...a Supercross?
I have.
245 is a pretty damn good number...and that's usually involving some Ti and Carbon!
Yes, a coupl'a "Works-Bikes" have made it to the limit...WITHOUT GAS.
Yes, we've built 197# 250Fs...at a PREMIUM!

I ain't no Katoom guy; however, I've watched the development of that bike for a while, now.

They've knocked it out of the Park!

No wonder the guys at FMF have been so "Tight-Lipped" about it (They've had one for a Loooooong Time!)

I'm jus' sayin'...

I don't know what site that you're referring to for the "published weight" of the CRF450R but Honda only publishes the curb weight of all machines which is full of all fluids including fuel.

From Honda's site: Curb Weight - 234.8 pounds (Includes all standard equipment, required fluids and a full tank of fuel—ready to ride)

What if someone actually though a little outside of the box in terms of building a motocross bike. Say for instance a larger version of the Fox Float airshock for the no link rear suspension, a one piece carbon fiber airbox/subframe/seatbase/silencer combo and an air fork conversion like Georges Jobe had several years back with dampening internals in only one leg like the new Kawasaki. Throw on some real tubeless tires, scatter about some carbon, ti and mag bits at the OE level and price it accordingly. I can imagine there are some privateers who would buy a lightweight limited production racebike. It could be built alongside a currently homologated bike using the major components. Just thinking here.....maybe KTM's listening.Smile

No one ever said anything about the published weigth. The numbers were taken from Dirt Riders bike test where they actually weighed the bikes.

So now your just another guy trying to use false info or any means possible to make the KTM 350 seem better than it actually is.
Go buy the KTM but don't lie to yourself to do it. The bike looks killer and probably rides awsome but BOTTOM LINE is that there are 450's that are lighter and the others are only 3-4 pounds heavier Period.

So if 245lbs. is light then we should all be thankfull that our 450's are basically considered light ,by you.. Oh and the 450's are faster.

For the record:

I think the Honda feels the lightest.
The Yamaha feels pretty light, too...especially in the air.

I haven't seen a Race-Ready bike that weighs like this/these...amongst the Privateers, especially...go take a look at all the hardware that people add/change...

Weight: tank full
450 Total Front/Rear Bias
Honda CRF450R 237 121/116 51/49%
Kawasaki KX450F 250 125/125 50/50%
KTM 450 SX-F 251 124/127 49.4/50.6%
Yamaha YZ450F 248 127/127 50/50%

Fuel capacity:

Honda 1.5 gal
Kawi 1.9 gal
KTM 2.1 gal
Yamaha 1.6 gal

I'm pretty sure that's all from a magazine test, right? Box stock? All stock hardware?

Go compare your stock chain compared to a good chain...oops...KTM not-inclusive!
Go compare the weight of your Bars & Levers versus the hardware your bike came with...etc!
Did'ya add a glide-plate?
Bigger rotors?
Hinson Clutch?
Ya gotta give them credit where credit's due, that's all.
I've noticed that a lot LESS hardware get's "switched out" on the KTMs.

The new Katoom 350 is going to be more than a few pounds lighter than the average 450...in the real world.
It's carriesit's weight/mass pretty low, too.
It's has a bit less Inertial Effect (Engine-wise).
Oh, and then there's the "Button"...E-Start, anyone?
These things have already been stated by those that have tested it...and written about it.

That's the point.

245 with -2- Gallons of Fuel...that's a few pounds MORE in just fuel, alone, compared to the Honda...?

By the time you put some of the good hardware, like a decent chain(!), on the other bikes...?

No worries, I'm sure I'm wrong...I'll live with it.

Speaking of Princess , I'm sure the 350 will make a great "Wifes Bike" . Kinda like a next step up from a TTR125-L

seriously. Are you just trying to be argumentative? Are you gonna STFU when one blows by you or gets the start over you?

I am guessing you don't ride or just have no f-ing clue, or are just an argumentative asshole.

People who actually ride and race aren't typically so quick to be hateful and doubtful about competing machinery. However, keyboard only riders are very fast to jump to conclusions.

I believe it would benefit to the debate to remove the electric start components and add back the kick start to the KTM's prior to comparing total weight with or without fluids to the others. Not sure of the real weight for the battery, starter and wiring, but it must be a few pounds.

They say the total is 8 pounds VS the kick starter. Everyone loves that button though.

Yes ,of course! Don't we all generally ignore someone who has an opinnion that we don't agree with. This is all just internet fun. This just passes time until the weekend when we can get back to the track.

PS, one thing we should'nt ignore is that the 350 is heavier than one of the 450's :-)
