Mine did this after 22 hours . Anyone else seen this on any others
Holy shi. Looks like a hand grenade went off in there.

That’s a shame. I personally haven’t seen any failures on the 12+ bikes in my riding group. But there has been a few reports of the piston hitting the crank, which could lead to a situation like you have here.
It seems like most/ all the failures have been with the SX 250/300, but that doesn’t make much sense, since they are the same motors/ ECU as the XC models.
Maybe riding them harder at the motocross track leads to this, I don’t know…
But mine have been very solid, with no issues
Ours has been great for 4 months and around 20 hours now. But last week wouldnt start on the button, just turns the motor but wont fire. Then the button is dead for about 10-15 minutes, so seems like the ECU is preventing it from starting then shutting of the start button.
Will start easily with a bump start and run perfectly with no flashing codes.
Changed the battery, plug and start/stop button but that changed nothing and it does exactly the same. Its going to a dealer tomorrow to plug in to a KTM diagnostic tester, hopefully they find something, although no lights flash so the bike thinks its OK, once we start it.
I did have an issue with the OEM start/stop button shorting out and draining my battery. I replaced it with the Motominded BBS button and charged the battery. Everything has been ok since… the stock start/stop button is a piece of junk
post up your findings after the dealer checks it out, I’m curious as to what happened to yours.
TPI bikes would stop the spark if the compression got too low. I don't know if the TBI have that same start logic or not.
Ouch… wonder if coolant was seeping into combustion chamber? Hydro lock?
There's been several failures like this in my area. The guy I know is an A rider with around 20hrs on the bike
Interesting. I’m an a rider too . I messaged the shop I got it from and they said that the pistons in them aren’t very strong but Ktm won’t do anything about it
I would escalate that with a call to a KTM customer service rep or regional rep….
Ours has been in the dealership for 2 hours at $115/hour and still not fixed. They have just asked my son who took the bike about going into the 3rd hour. If they can fix it after that we still pay $345 and take the bike home in the same condition we took it in.
Is that right?
My 2020 tc250 had pretty much same thing happen at 15 hours, only thing left of the piston was the dome. Husky paid for everything, even bought me a new fmf pipe as there was piston chunks inside it. Was super easy too, my dealer took care of everything and instantly got the green light to fix it all.
Yep got 30hrs out of mine though
