Nice info, do you gain also on the max RPM ?

Was just under 1HP as it hit the limiter, but I'm confident that will be improved once I get time to play with the mapping some more.

I stand corrected.
Nice gain. Great info and dyno comparison.

Might have to go that route with my FS450 Supermoto (even I can hold it WFO on the tar, for a short while.)
Thanks.

How was 20 vs. 21 on dyno?

Why don't you include the scale in your photo? Also you can't add other other mods like an airbox cover and mapping and then say it was a filter. You need to put the factory filter back in and test with the same cover and mapping to be a fair comparison. Generally 3 dyno pulls each need to be posted as well so we get an idea of the variance, it could be 0.5 hp just between pulls.

Thanks for the tips Timo, if I have any trouble operating my dyno in the future I’ll be sure to be in touch so you can sort me out....

21 has sacrificed some bottom to pick up a little up top. Possibly better for fast guys, maybe not so much for the average Joe.

I wasn't saying you don't know how to run a dyno, I said they can be very misleading to people who don't understand the variables. Post up the full test so everyone can see the data, not just a screen shot that can be zoomed in to make .25hp look like a major gain.

same. I love the 350 but the deciding factor was the kyb stock. I don't have the coin for the technical touch on a 350 lol

I always have a 350 in the garage (current is 21 KTM 350XCF Kailub Russell Edition) and get to ride my buddy's '21 YZ250F a lot. 350's are my favorite combination of power/weight/handling in a 4-stroke dirt bike. The '21 YZ250F is a very close 2nd favorite 4-stroke for me. The YZ250F has such good partial throttle roll on response and torque feel for a 250F. The YZ250F engine is so quick revving with snappy throttle response - like a 2-stroke. And you can play with the Yamaha EFI mapping phone app for different power characteristics. The KYB suspension is so dialed in for moto. Easy to understand why the YZ250F is so popular.

Just got my bike! Won’t be able to ride until spring. Was reading some tests and some people moved the front forks to 5mm instead of the stock 7mm. Is this necessary? just wondering. Thanks

I like the twin air one because you can easily get down in the airbox and clean it / make sure no dirt fell off your dirty filter when you took it off.

One thing I am worried about with the new air box is that any dirt that comes off your air filter during a change now drops directly into your intake...
Yes,I have one on my 20 yz450 and that is a major problem waiting to happen. I used an air compressor to blow out as much dirt as I could b4 removing the filter...even as careful as I was, a couple of grains made there way down to the throttle body, had to use a screw driver in a rag to dab at those bits to pick them out.
Anyone who is careless could easily trash their motor with this setup..

Not necessary but it balances out the bike well. It’s a bit front end heavy at 7mm.

meh....i'm not a believer in such a miniscule change making a noticeable impact on how the bike feels.

My buddy added them to his 2020 YZ250F. (3) of us all felt it helped front end traction feel at turn in and settled the bike on rough higher speed sections. Not a big difference but noticeable. He sold that bike and bought a 21 YZ250F. We have all ridden the 21 YZ250F and it has the better turn in feel and just feels better overall stock than the 21 YZ250F with FCP mounts. None of felt the need for FCP engine mounts on the 21 YZ250F.

Seems like these are on epic back order. I wanted to pick up two kits for my 250 and 450.

I got idea to get friend of mine made that bottom part, so I could just use 20-21 filters and cage on top but eliminate screen.

Pull the stock cage and use a drummer grinder, cut out the screen then lightly sand burrs. Done deal

I have the chance to pick up a set for $300 for my 20, do you think it’s worth that? I already have the suspension done, just trying to make the bike suit me as well as I can. I already love the stock platform.

As for removing the screen from the stock cage, are you running a backfire filter? Is anyone actually worried about a 250f lighting a filter on fire?

For my buddy with the 20 YZ250F the FCP engine mounts were worth the money in terms of chassis feel and I felt similarly after riding the bike with the stock mounts and FCP mounts. If you are sensitive to small changes to your bike might be worth trying.

Tried both the Keefer maps and the Yamaha exciting power map. I split between the Keefer Free Feeling and Yamaha map. I don’t think the “high end power” map really does that much to help carry 3rd more than the others but does take away some more bottom. That being said TD did a vortex for me that I should be getting today, pretty excited!

Got my 21 and got to break it in over the weekend. Coming from a 19 and then 20 yz450 its a bit of a change for me and I tihnk its still going to take me another ride or 2 to adapt to a 250 again... I think the biggest struggle is figuring out what gear for corners.

I tried the top end map, the exciting power and the free revving map, I decided to leave the exciting power as my main map and the top end map for map 2. I think I like the exciting power one the most.

I went up 1 on the rear sprocket, hoping it would help me use 3rd a bit in some corners.. I honestly can't say I noticed a ton of difference but the track I broke it in at was pretty huge/wide open compared to the track I rode the next day where it was really broke in and i started to really ride it hard, probably should have waited and changed the sprocket after but i've got 2 feet of snow now so that was probably it til I can head south.

I just put a ful ti fmf system on it. Excited to try that. It definitely shaved a few pounds off over the stock system. i've got a superflo kit on order from no toil as well, but who knows when it will ever show up.

i'm 5'10 175lbs, the sag was right at 104 after about 1.5 hrs for me without touching it so I probably wont even touch that. I set the clickers to match what keefer suggested, wasn't far off stock.. seems good, not doing anything bad. Might go in a few more clicks all around to stiffen it a little more. I did not play w/ the fork height yet though, kind of forgot about that, wish I would have. Will do next time.

overall the bike's a blast compared to riding a 450..it feels so light and flickable, i can come into corners with more speed and not be afraid to get on the gas sooner. I think that should translate to better laptimes for me.. but hard to tell for now. just need to learn to let it rev more.

Let us know when you try the Vortex ECU from TD and does it feel compared to stock, i'm torn between the vortex or the GET ECU !

But anyway both should work great on this bike, i will go where i have the better deal

Not super sure one over the other, but theres a GET on MxGearLocker for like $625 right now. TD did mention that they have seen some failures with GET before, also the GET only stores 2 maps the Vortex has 10 on it.
