I doubt it. They still sell very well with no r&d money spent on it since 2006. Unless KTM starts selling a heap more sx's than Yamaha sells yz's I think they will stay the same

im sure KTM already sells way more SX then yamaha sells YZ's.

In Australia they don't, can't say for the rest of the world though. The last numbers I saw a couple years ago were the top 10 selling new motocross bikes, the yz250 was on that list, the 250sx wasn't

I would love to see that, but I am also 99% sure they aren't. I think when Yamaha stop selling them they will just quit making 2 strokes. Hope it doesn't happen anytime soon, best bike I've ever ridden/had.

No reason to. It’s a great, staple point bike that everyone can have fun on! The only reason to change is when the plastics get out of date every 10 years or so.Cool

Back in 2012 I was okay with the YZ being identical to an 06. Seemed smart since they still sold a ton. But damn, that model is 15 years old! Imagine 20 years ago buying a brand “new” 2000 YZ, but it’s a 1986 model with BNG.

I had a YZ250 not too long ago and it really does feel dated when you ride it. The ergos, feel, etc. 15 years is too damn long, I want a new YZ to drool over.

I wish they would do something with it like maybe a counterbalanced engine would be nice but at this point I just hope they keep making them.

Best thing yamaha could do with the yz at this point would be to update to some 4 stroke parts that would help them eliminate extra inventory that the yz creates.
Swingarm, linkage, rear brake carrier, axle, hub, fork lugs and axle, number plate and front fender. Anything they can bolt on. Right now the swingarma won't bolt on but if they consider this next time they revamp the 4 strokes they can make it work.

Just doing that would get a new wave of yz owners off their old bike and into the dealer to get the new model all while saving yamaha money.

I agree, they have to have that production line so dialed in after 15 years of making the exact same product. I bet when it comes time to switch the line over to make 2 strokes all the senior management goes on vacation cause they know there won't be issues.

Its still probably the best suspended 250 2 stroke out there.

When it is not broken, do you really need to change it?

If we had that mentality we would have zero progression. That's why I did not even consider the YZ and bought the KTM. I want to support a company who still develops the 2 stroke.

The yz 250 is the best bike made today imo, it is a proven platform that works good for everything. I currently ride a ktm150sx and have rode the 250sx, they are awesome bikes but my next 2 stroke will be blue most likely.

The yz250 is really an awesome bike. They are so simple and easy. The yz125 is killer too. They are definitely an acquired taste though. When you get one you learn to love it. Very few people have owned yz250s and been unhappy.

RMZ450 would be next on that list.
I know there's plenty of haters who say it's a dinosaur, but honestly it's a great all round bike and has been a competitive race bike in nearly the same configuration for a decade.

Its sad but yeah sooner or later they will be canned. Only thing that seems to have extended their existence is the x models. They wouldnt "develop" those x models to can the 2 strokes a yr or 2 later. So maybe they have a while left yet.

The small bikes seem more secure because there isnt really any alternatives. Good that they finally brought them out of the 90s though!

How about they improve the durability of the transmissions? The clutch could use an update, too.

Yup. The transmission gears seem to be made of cheap aluminum material. Decent platform, but not the best Mx bike made as some have mentioned. Definitely not the most durable bike made.
