I have a 2020 yz250 and my one big gripe is how wide the bike is, when I sat on a 2022 I loved how thin it is, so my question is do you guys think I could convert my bike to a 2022 body and how long will it be before parts are available to do that.

I am 99% sure that some aftermarket restyle kit will be available. However, I hope that it also includes a 22 replica seat, as it is not the same as the previous one. If not, you need the complete plastic kit, new tank, new seat and new airbox. Exhaust is the same, pretty sure the subframe is the same, but cannot confirm this.

I’m going to update my 15 as well, getting rid of those horrible tank graphics is going to be the best thing ever.

How much do you think all of that would cost

Is it really worth it? Probably cheaper just buying the 2022, swapping parts around. Sell the other bike on this crazy used bike market.

I started a thread also the day the 2022 bike was unveiled. I want to do the same thing to my 2020 as well. I sure hope someone makes a convo kit. I'd be first in line to buy.

Racetech Italy already make one.... perfect, and will save you about $2000. No Brainer. It's available in a full range of color combos right now... No waiting.

So what is the quality like on the full r tech restyle kit? I admit it looks good, but I got just a regular oem replacement kit for my 06 yz 125...r tech, and it was garbage! Radiator shrouds fit very poorly and look terrible once you force them on. Front fender.. had to cut over an inch off the back end of it just so it would clear the frame..couldn't turn the bars otherwise...was not happy at all

They are good. Screws are a little junk. It survived RBSR 2019 and a lot of SX!

Seems like way too much $ than what it's worth. I'd say either keep your bike and get the R-Tech shroud or sell the bike and get the '22. I hate the tank graphics hassle on my 125 but no way in hell am I going through swapping all of those parts just not have tank graphics lol. I'm sure there will be people that do it though.

Check your quote, I said not sure if it's slimmer. Yamaha said it's flatter in release.

Saw the new '22 YZ250 in person at a shop. The new seat is much thinner and flatter and the new smaller fuel tank along with the new shrouds gives the bike a different feel - lets you get further forward and feels a little smaller and more compact. A few pics below....set a '21 YZ125 next to it for some reference of current to new layout....

I wasn't a fan at first, but seeing them side by side the 21 looks old and outdated compared to the new bodywork. I hope the X models get the treatment next year and I will buy one to replace my 2016.

Oem looks better than any restyle kit, regardless of the year. Throwing on a restyle kit is like adding a lowering kit and body work to a Honda Civic.
