I've been looking at modifications to the OEM cover from Yamaha, and I think I'm going the route that Monster Energy/Star Racing did - cutting a hole in the front of the Cycra "tall" version of the air intake cover. However, I can't seem to find that part # from Cycra. Anyone know where to get one? Rocky Mountain ATV/Motosport/Etc. don't seem to have them. They have the previous generation version, with the small holes at the front of the air intake, but not the "tall" version that the Star Racing guys cut a hole out in the front. I also can't find it on Cycra's website, and they don't even list the 2021 YZ250F as having an air intake cover available. Anyobody have one and would care to share where they got it from?

It's just the Cycra cover. There is no tall version, as it is taller than stock. It's the same part 2019-2021.
This is what the Star team runs.

Slater Skins makes 1 that’s GREAT & inexpensive 👍👍 When coupled with the Twin Air Race Filter Set-Up, High Volume, you’ll feel the difference

I second the Slater skin cover. Big difference. Well made. Also I like to buy from the small businesses when I can.

I've definitely considered the Slater Skins cover but to be honest, some of the pictures I've seen posted make it look a little janky. Maybe it's better in person, but the fit and finish didn't look too great. Yours looks a little better, where did you get the graphics to cover it? Is that from Slater skins? Not sure I like the logos all over it though.

This is the Cycra cover. It gives more air volume around the filter. It is definitely taller than stock, but not sticking way up or anything.

I've been debating this also. I don't have my bike yet but it should be in soon. I haven't seen the Cycra on their website or anything (as it's own piece) so it's tough to really visualize how different it is. I can tell on the Star bikes that it is a bit taller though. I do like the Slater skins too but I just worry about when the tracks get dusty, how opened up that front induct is. The Nihilo is cool but I'm not paying that much for the part. @mx317 who did you order that through? Did you get the whole kit or just the part by itself? Any pics to compare with stock?

This discussion has some great info as well: https://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Tech-Help-Race-Shop,42/Who-makes-this-YZ…

I only started this thread because I wanted the specific part number to make sure that I got the correct Cycra cover. Many of the retail websites show the wrong picture.

For what it's worth I am going with the cover that star racing Yamaha uses, the Cycra OEM replacement. I will be cutting a hole just like they do, but I may end up putting a piece of screen behind it to keep out large debris. From what I can gather in these forumn posts it is taller than the factory cover allowing more volume of air.

MX317 gave me this Part Number: 1CYC-1785-62

Caved and bought a nihilo. Looking forward to noticing any gains.

The Slater Skins looks very homemade in some of the pictures, the rough edges and wonky vents would drive me bonkers.

You won’t regret it the nihilo airbox is awesome (below on my bike). And you should coupled it with a twinair or DT-1 powerflow cage.

TwinAir #160115. I made a mistake and order the one for the stock filter/screen, had to return it and order this 1. By the way,, the twin air filter cage is a very nice piece of kit, well-made.

Just out of curiosity, when you guys run a different airbox cover, what map are you running if you're using stock ECU and the Yamaha Power Tuner App? I would guess a richer map would help bump up the power as we are adding more air. I've been using the Exciting Power GYTR map and the Travis Preston (TP) map on a stock airbox cover and the Twin Air PowerFlow cage and filter. Haven't decided for sure on the cover, was just about to pull the trigger on the Cycra and I'm now considering the Slater Skins because it does look like a lot more room for air based on its height, janky holes and molding aside... Nihilo is out of my budget right now, but it does look sick!

Well, i can't answer that as i have a GET ECU. And i've never rode the bike with the stock ECU except for the break in...

All i can say is a GET ECU, Nihilo airbox, DT-1 filter cage and FMF full exhaust is a really nice combo which give a really strong motor down low, mid and up top !

Really love the bike so far, it is my first YZF, been on KTM/Husqvarna since 2016.

Here is the gain i got:

Bummer, dropping that much coin on some carbon fiber goodness and then having to wait is not much fun. I also think I have changed my mind and I am going with the poor man's version of Nihilo's carbon fiber cover. The Slater Skins cover looks nearly identical save for the materials. It does the same thing, but doesn't look nearly as sexy. I think my wife may have thought that about me at some point...
