I’m really hoping yamaha turns the engine around and scraps that design.

It’s so funny to me! People say reverse engine, turn the engine around,
All they did was make what was a normal design and make the intake valves into exhaust & the exhaust the intake! Tilt the cylinder back a few degrees
In my opinion Yamaha is leading the way in innovation, again just am opinion!!!!

And it's not exactly a new idea.

The mass of the motor on the 2020 YZ450F is right between your legs. Right at the center point of the bike. It's a weird feeling but once you get used to it the bike feels extremely agile. It's definitely a weird feeling but you grow to like it pretty quickly. I think it's a great design but feels very different than all the other brands.

I’m pretty sure they just followed Cannondales lead. They just had a slightly larger r&d budget.

I have just bought a 2020 YZ 450, coming from long term KTM. With your info have you got one?...

Really looking forward to riding it, had the suspension re-valved with springs too, Ti/Carbon FMF, Talon hubs and rims, X8 pegs, C&S kit, Acerbis sump/rotor/lower fork guards and some 997's (with the cross bar cut!) so far....

I agree they should have fuel injected the 09 and not bother with that whole b******* engine design. They haven't won a title since in the 450s

No way, I was also thinking of a 19/20 KX450 too, as I read the whole 100+ pages on them here and was really impressed with all the reviews, so... If you had to keep one... What one would it be and why?, go!. Smile

Honda doesn't have a "backwards" engine, and hasn't won in the US in the four stroke era.

Ok.....so i’ve thought about this a lot. I like the Kawi better than the Yamaha. The kawi has a few mechanical things that were a pain in the ass and i worry that the bike won’t hold up as well. I’m at 40 hrs now. So far.....this has been my favorite bike to ride. The forks can be ridden aggressively and the bike is quick and agile. The Yamaha is made so well. The bike is put together perfectly and it’s built like a tank. I have 15 hours on it and haven’t sent the suspension to my favorite shop yet because it’s so good. Great bike but i can race better with the kawi. Really such a close call on this. If i could only own one bike.....it would be the yamaha. This is due to the fact that it will never be down and will go 100 hours needing nothing

Kind of a contradiction i know. I can do a better sprint lap on the kawi. I think i go faster on that bike and the ergos are amazing. Totally underrated bike and i can’t believe that there weren’t more of them at the local races.

This is true . I'm a Yamaha guy but it's taken almost 10 years to make that bike favorable for some pros . If you look at the motor it gets tilted more forward with each design update .

Thank you for taking the time out to reply and put down how you feel and also rate both the bikes.

Interesting views!, I too was worried about the Kawasaki when the hours started mounting up, but everyone in the 100 page + thread seems to love 'em, so I went for the Yamaha as it was just an amazing deal that would never come up again, I guess if it had been a Kawasaki I would have one too!.

Post some pics please when you have the time. Cheers.

Funny you say that because, am I not correct in saying Honda hasn't won a supercross championship since 2002/2003 with RC which was on a 2 stroke.!?

Awesome, thanks for that. What sprockets are you running on the Yamaha?, looks like the standard on the rear but might be mistaken. Would be interested to know as not seen a lot of info for a good C&S set up reviews for the '20.

And Grey looks good!, I know you can replace the seat cover as you have, but how did you manage to disguise the Blue gas tank cover up?.

Thanks again.
