Team Belgium uses the lightblue since Assen. Previously it was always a mix of the black, yellow and red colors of the Belgian flag. Because it was a mix, the team staff noticed that the riders/fans didn't really stand out in the MXoN crowd as much as, for example, the Dutch do with their orange set up, or like Italy in darkblue. And there's no orange or darkblue in the Dutch or Italian flags either.

The lightblue has also been used at the very beginning of motorsport, when Belgium took part in national competitions. In addition, the color is also used by the national teams in roadcycling / cyclocross and it has also been the color of the national football team several times, if they cannot play in red or white. Hence the choice for this color, so it immediately stands out.
