Can you run a normal bar pad on these bikes or do you have to keep the connectivity unit on the bars?

I moved mine to behind the front plate. It still works. Then I mounted a regular Pro-Taper pad.

What did you secure it with behind the number plate? Everyone says it had to be flat. I’m assuming that’s not the case?

There is a thread on vital where someone posted that a company/or random dude made a bracket for it behind the numberplate.

I did what Keefer did and just tied it to the other electronics back there. In the other Thread as GrapeApe is referring to, there's a guy who made a bracket but he's overseas and I don't think he's selling them.
Mine works perfectly and I was able to link up to it even though it's not laying flat as some say it needs to.

I have a Rockstar Edition and I went round and round with moving it. I ended up just leaving it on the bars because I didn't like it zip tied to the wiring harness behind the front number plate. It kinda looked like a clusterf**k behind there. Honestly, at first I thought it looked dumb but now I don't even care. I like the stock bar bend and just threw on some spacers to bump up the height a little. I hope someone comes up with some sort of clean relocation bracket for it but I have heard that its possible they may be going away with the connectivity unit all together.

I just added it to my 22 450sxf. By the way it’s plug and play on the 22, I didn’t have to have the dealer sync it or anything. They must have updated the ecu already for 22.
