I think it will still be a heavy pig. Maybe 3 to 5 pounds lighter than the current model. Same forks and shocks. Simular construction frame. Simular engine. Same clamps, wheels, tires, etc.
so you still think it will be 'heavy', sounds like you have insider knowledge about what the bike will have in terms of suspension, clamps, wheels, frame, etc.....can you please tell us what the exact weight will therefore be? thanks

If anyone thinks a 15lbs lighter bike will improve their riding, I have some special oil for you! Only $50 per liter and will make your engines run 50°F cooler and add 15% more power!

Does anyone know what the weight difference is between a current aluminum frame from any OEM vs. the KTM/Husq steel frame?

Not sure exactly but I know the KTUskygas is lighter.

Has anyone checked the frame weight between say a ktm450 and a crf450? I would love to see if the extra weight is the frame itself or a lot of smaller components.

Apparently KTM save 10lbs using self tapping screws in the tank.

I think I remember the aluminum frames were 5-6 pounds heavier. I think the new Honda will weigh about what the KX450 weighs, which is the lightest japan 450 right now

2016 CFR450R frame with linkage and pegs is 27lbs, I would think the newer frame could be slightly lighter, but probably not much. I believe the big difference is in the engines and wheels (mostly spokes), and the fully cast swingarm. As noted by the wheel failures a couple of years ago, I think they are approaching the limit without starting a huge price jump for materials. Personally I like steel oil pumps and shift cams, but apparently every ounce counts for some. I know I'm the same speed on a 230lbs KX250 2-stroke, 268lbs WR250F, or a 256lbs YZ450FX. There's a video of some guy racing a XR600R in moto just blowing by guys on new bikes... he did break some spokes though. I've also raced a hare scramble where a guy was racing a stock KTM530EXC, honking the horn as he was blowing by 300xc's, license plate flopping in the rough spots. Pretty sure he used his turn signals when he passed me.

Ktm does it with a ground up approach. Their linkage is designed in a way to use a lighter shock spring, their body work is designed to use less fasteners, their engines are designed to remove as much dead space and material as possible, less wasted material throughout. Its no one thing. Its the sum of the whole effort.

Suzuki is good example. Just look at their engine next to a ktm. The rmz450 engine looks like a big block chevy next to ktms engine. And it adds up from there.

I don't care how light it will be. It will still be too heavy thanks to the battery, extra throttle cable, fifteen switches on the handlebars, valves, lifters, timing chain, etc.

Keidrowski would blow by local pro's at Gorman on his stock'ish DRZ all the time back in WORCS days. Made me laugh one time when he kept the horn. You could hear 'beep beep' all around the track. Laughing

this.

plus the ktm exhaust system is outrageously light, my full yosh added more than half a pound vs the stock exhaust. lighter weight tubes as well, not sure how much lighter but oem ktm are the lightest tubes I could find for any bike

Do you really think the 2021 model bikes will be released this year, no way, they will be released in 2021.
All the manufactures will follow the same decisions.
