I'd go YZ too. I bought a new RMZ 250 last year and have really enjoyed it. Buddy of mine who has a YZ broke his collarbone and so I tried his bike a couple of weekends and wow. My RMZ has some goodies on it tailored to me and my liking and his YZ is bone stock and its sooooo much easier to ride faster for longer. I thought the wider tank section would bug me but a couple laps in and I didn't even notice. If anything it maybe helped as I can get lazy with the knee squeezing and the wider tank made squeezing easier.

YZF 2021 seems to please many riders for what i heard from preview videos but the KX 250 has an awesome motor similar to the KTM, so it's gonna be difficult to choose...
hope to try them later this year !

I think green would make a cool looking bike. An old school yellow Yamaha would be nice.

Seriously, without riding them to see how they feel you might as well just pick a color you like.
I think that's what a lot of people do. Pick their favorite color.

I can get a KX250 for $1k cheaper than any other color in the area. I like the YZ app. I say get whatever you can afford in the area you are in. (I hate traveling for bikes)

All this talk about motors, motors, motors - how about how each bike FEELS? I've had both the YZF and the KTM. The Yamaha felt large and roomy, and I didn't care for that. So I sold it. I read all the comparison tests, and a consensus of the testers said the KTM feels the most tight and compact - so I bought one. They were right. It almost feels like an 85 by comparison.

I prefer the KTM by a large margin, but that's just me, a guy who's always liked smaller bikes. Some guys prefer the exact opposite. They like the stability that comes with a more stretched out ride.

Motor, schmotor - find out what kind of chassis you prefer, because that's the ONE THING you cannot change with aftermarket parts.

I'm thinking my next bike might be the 2022 CRF, but I won't make my decision until I hear from the testers how it feels, If it feels big and roomy, I'll just be keeping my pumpkin and spending my money on even better suspension parts.

Personally I like small feeling, Lite, easy to ride, good handling, smooth power delivery.
What bike would yall recommend?
I'm 5,9 185
Regardless of weight I feel like a 450 is more power than I want.

Yamaha, by far the best suspension, best motor, and reliability. A few pluses are the WiFi mapping as well as a engine that can be made a beast cheaply.

KTM but you will have to deal with the air forks......once you get the cone valves......great bike. The KTM feels small, light, and maneuverable.

2021 KX250, I'm getting one for $8k. Local dealer is selling a 2019 CRF250 for $8900 and another has a 2020 CRF250 for $8900. Northern Indiana has few dealers and their markups are crazy. The one I'm getting from a Kawasaki dealership have no sales staff (the owners are the sellers) which is probably why it's so much cheaper. I forgot how much Ziegler in Kalamazoo quoted me on a YZF250 but it was more than MSRP.

That is bonkers pricing, kawi is the obvious choice at that price.

Since you're the "Original Poster" I'll chime in and just say that, since you've stated you prefer a smaller-feeling bike, I'd heartily recommend a KTM. The air forks take some effort to get dialed in, but their adjustability is straightforward and uncomplicated. The handling and power are on-point, and the reliability of mine has been excellent.

Not hating on ANY of the others. I'd love to have one of each, frankly.

Peace out.

If I was going to get a 250F , it would be a Husky. Love the way my 2 stroke Husky's feel and the fit and finish of them. Kinda wish I would of been able to at least try one.

I went with Honda. I rode a Husky, Yamaha, and Honda before deciding. Yamaha felt too wide, and just didn’t suit me. I liked the Husky, and was really considering one, but then I rode a 2020 Honda and everything just felt comfortable on it to me. I really wish I had gotten to ride a Kawi (my last 250F was a 17 kawi), I was a little turned off with it being a first year model though. I kind of like to wait a year or 2, just in case there’s any kinks that need to be worked out. That’s another reason I went with Honda, last year for this model so hopefully they have all their shit together on it. Grinning
