I arrived at Swan MX in Tyler, TX last night for the 2020 Texas Pro Challenge. 25k dollar pro purse up for grabs and it usually attracts some top 20 national talent. We have practice today and pro moto's on Saturday and Sunday at 1pm and 4pm.

Usually this race takes place shortly after the AMA national series has ended so I am curious to see who all decides to blow off the Thunder Valley National and make some money here.

I know Grant Harlen and Ryder Floyd have said they will be here. I wouldn't be surprised to see Curren Thurman here. Kyle Cunningham is usually a regular, but I'm not sure if he has been riding. Last year he chased down John Short and took the lead mid way through the second 450 moto only to have his bike put a rod through the cases and burst into flames! It was an EPIC ride and I hope to see more of that action this year. Ben Lamay usually shows up. John Short is usually a front runner at this race. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jesse Flock or Lance Kobush as they have both been here before. I guess it just depends who decides to skip Thunder Valley.

Anyway, I will be out here racing all weekend and updating this thread with Pro Challenge results and some cell phone pics!

Edit to add results:

I have been the past 5 years but can't make it this year. That is always an awesome race. Last year I believe Alessi won at least one of the pro classes. He had a great battle with someone (Thurman maybe). I remember my son texting me as I was up by the stands last year and he was down on the starting line watching the pros line up. He was standing next to Forkner who was there helping one of the guys. Two years ago I was parked right across from Lamay. So cool just to go up and talk to these guys and have access to them like that. Sad to miss it this year.

Got to see John Short go head to head with Demuth when he had both legs at Freestone one year. They entered the 12 pack quite a bit different than everyone else in the class.

They had a new obstacle they opened up for the day. It's a really long and steep ant hill single. Leblanc with the scrub:

Here is another one for perspective of the obstacle. It's probably ~50ft tall or so.

The 250 moto was pretty much set from the start with Leblanc getting the holeshot followed by Floyd in second. Brandon Walther pulled up on them in the beginning showing some serious speed but then faded. Towards the end of the moto I counted that Ryder Floyd was about 5 seconds back of Leblanc.

Several good battles back in the pack. Doc Smith came forward several spots and passed Alexander Vestal for 7th, but Alexander would not let Doc get away. There was nothing in it between them for about 20 minutes before Doc finally gapped him. Great racing!!!!!!

The 450 moto was very entertaining!!! It was Walther with the holeshot followed by Curler and Cheyenne Harmon. Oldenburg started in 5th place and I think Leblanc and Floyd were behind him. (I was busy with some of my own racing activities at the beginning of the moto so I might have some details wrong).

Let me say this about Walther, the kids is blazing fast! He showed serious speed today! He faded at the end of both motos but man, until he got tired he was awesome.

Oldenburg was the class of the field but it probably took him about 12 minutes to get up to Walther and pass into first. It was fun to watch him move forward!

Floyd came past everyone also, including Leblanc if I am not mistaken. He rode awesome all day and was very impressive.

Maybe Leblanc was on his 250f for this race. He didn't look tired but maybe the lack of power held him back a little bit . . . Then again it is a Star Yamaha he is on! And I forget to mention that Leblanc did have a bike issue in the 250 moto on that Star Yamaha . . . His gas cap vet hose came lose and was whipping all over the place, haha

And I guess I haven't mentioned how good Mathew Curler has looked all weekend. That kid is in shape and has some speed to go with it!!!!

Can't wait for tomorrow!!!!

15 and 23 riders, that's possibly the lowest turnout for this race I've ever seen. Guess all the other big races on the same weekend definitely took its toll.

Definitely the lowest pro rider turn out I have ever seen for the pro challenge and I have been coming out here since 2001. I blame the Colorado National and all the other big races for that also.

However, this place is PACKED! The amateur turnout is huge!!!! There is 29 riders in my +25 "Vet Challenge" money class. There is 30 riders in my son's 65cc 7-9 class. There is 41 riders in the open C/D class. Good luck finding a parking spot out here. I literally had a car park under my trailer awning yesterday. I had the bikes out behind the trailer for the day time and that car just rolled right into spot. I can't hardly blame them though, there was nowhere else to park.

I thought I saw him leaving Friday after the day practice as I was coming in for the night race. Either it wasn’t him, or maybe he had some issue that day not allowing him to race.

Kudos to Trey and Sarah for putting up the biggest pro purse in Texas (excluding Dallas/Houston SX) for many years. My wallet was looking forward to a low pro turnout with the nationals still running but unfortunately for me an issue arose with getting my bike ready to race. So instead I have to cycle and run this weekend 😡

They just announced that Grant Harlen and Lane Shaw came in from Colorado and are racing today. I saw Lane Shaw in the pro practice but I didn't see Harlen out there.
