Over four more peak horsepower out of the bike and kyb sounds like shootout winner

Any data showing 4 hp increase?

A 4hp increase is huge. Thats 40hp out of a 250
The KTM were already pulling 44 HP out of theirs and the Kawasaki was a touch over 40, so it may be 44 now.

This was on Pro Circuits dyno for the 18s. I know each dyno is a bit different, but you can compare.

They can handle the improvement of going from Showa up to KYB. Don't worry.

I have to think that you're being sarcastic or that i'm misreading what you've written? The KYB fork thats going on the new 250f is no where near the level showa fork that PC team runs.... They are on the newest fork most likely with 27mm mid valve.... current works stuff. This KYB fork is still 4mm smaller than the current works or production 49mm showa main comp.

The current 2019 showa 49mm spring fork on the 450 is a superior fork internally as well. They've always had the 250F on one brand and the 450 on the other - probably to keep pricing in check between vendors.

This KYB fork is the same one that has been on yamaha since 2006 from the looks of it. A great fork, but not as good as the production 19 showa units or the works parts PC runs.

Pretty sure he was asking if we'd see PC on some factory or kit kyb stuff. We are all aware they aren't going to run the production components.

Both the 250 and 450 have been on showa for a few years now, just the sff junk that was on the 250f was atrocious so reguardless this is an exciting change.

It also says in the PR that this is the latest gen kyb with a 25mm mid Piston, so only 2mm different.
Dont forget the 35 vs 39mm main comp assembly piston, thats 4mm. Unless they updated the KYB and failed to mention it, believe they still have 12.x damp rods too compared to production 14 on Showa.

Regardless PC is in bed with Showa as they do a lot of development with them, I would be SHOCKED to see PC team using KYB.

Just to be clear, im not saying the KYB is a bad fork. It works really well on the Yamaha stuff. Its absolutely an upgrade from the SFF, which was long in the tooth on the kx250F and was never really very good in my opinion.

The 2020 KX250.....with a little more juice to the motor and a move away from the separate function fork.....should be an awesome bike.

Welcome to 2019. Just ask how bike keeps performing sand or heavy tracks. Sure bluegroove tracks anything working.
I don't take my bikes to Glamis, thanks for the heads up though..

Where has it been stated that there is a 4hp gain for the 250?

Not trying to argue, but this is also the first I've heard of this as well. Can you point us in the direction of some people having issues if they're on here? Just out of curiosity I'd like to see a few of them. I have no skin in the game, i only have my 125 and 250f but I have some friends on 450's I could give a heads up to, we haven't seen issues yet in sand/mud/heavy clay.

I know of one from someone very close too me. At 17 hrs of Vet intermediate weekend use his bike experienced a louder than normal ticking in the top end. This engine has a very noisey valve train anyhow which is deemed normal. But it was definitely more audible than other like bikes. He took it to the dealer and it was suffering from piston slap. The piston was toast and it took the cylinder with it. It never got to the point of seizing or turning sideways so it didn't "blow up." But the piston and cylinder were trash. This guy has impeccable maintenance practices too so it was not a lack of owner care on his part. Kawi actually warrantied it since such low hours and he is a valued customer to that dealer. New piston, new cylinder....0 hrs on top end...same tick. Its currently back in the dealer looking at the crank. I don't think its inferior engine or lack of quality, it was just prab that one you see every once in awhile. This guy has had countless brand New Kawi 450s and never had a single issue. The engine was bone stock internally BTW and never opened up for any reason prior to the work being done. While that bike is being sorted out he bought another 19 so he had a bike and that one is fine and all other Kawi in the group have had no issues. I'm not willing to say there is an issue inherently he just may have got a bad one off the line......it happens with EVERY Brand.
This is a true story 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’ll hooefully find out tomorrow what is causing the knocking noise. It’s coming from the right side engine case below the oil filter.... very possibly it’s a crank failure but we will see.

Whatever route they go, we can at least agree it won't be WP. Woohoo
