Big red flag.. the engine case on the 250 does not look to have accommodations for an electric motor for the next generations models.

I hope the estart location is on the opposite side of the kickstart lever. I cant imagine theyd create tooling for a 1 year run like that.

Kind of makes me wonder. Seems like it would be cost prohibitive to make a one year only case. Is it possible they have a plug like the 17 CRF450 and just "forgot" to mention it?

It needs it because their competitors have it. Keep up with technology or fall behind like Suzuki. Estart is a requirement for most new buyers.

I love my kx, but I'll go Honda for the e-start if the 2021 doesn't have one. Once you've had an estart you miss it.

As an Alex Martin-sized vet, E-start is a requirement for me if I'm paying $8k for a bike. All that top end power is great, but for a casual rider/racer the KX offers nothing over Honda and Yamaha. I'm guessing since the body work is still the last gen that maybe 2021 will have the new frame? But even that seems silly

I’m curious on the klx300r. I’m currently racing harescramble on a kx250f with out e start it’s miserable. Everyone I race has it. And our races are dead engine start. I’m last out the gate every time.

Is this thing a strike at competing in off road racing or just another trail bike for a weekend warrior?

I’m sure this year has the all new top end and next will have the bottom with the ever so sought after E start. Kick starting a small bore bike takes about as much effort as it does to push a button but, in today’s world we need it as easy as possible, god forbid any manual labor when we don’t “have” too. This is a huge improvement, the whole top end is redesigned and ditching the SFF design is a huge step in the right direction. There was nothing wrong with the frame as it was as it’s problems the most compliant frame in the bunch so no changes to that, is a good thing. And body styling, that gen styling looks 100 times better than the redesign 450 so IMO that didn’t need a change either and is a good hold over. The self proclaimed need to completely redesign the wheel and ground up rebuild every four years to stay in front, usually hurts these guys cause they end up ditching something that was good, to market the “new” change. When in reality the old was better. Rant over, good job Kawi!

Is electric start really that big of a deal breaker? I've been riding my whole life and kick starting a bike seems like a very, very, very small aspect of it all. I get the pro's wanting it for quick starts after eating shit or tipping over in a corner, but for the average weekend warrior - seems like just another part to break, maintain, or have to replace eventually.

if youre all in on team green, then no e-start is probably not a deal breaker. But does this bike offer more enough to make you choose it over the four that have e-start? 10 years ago some people had a similar opinion on EFI but now we wouldnt touch a new bike without it

Pressing a button is a lot easier way to start your bike when your 2 hours into weston beach race and have just gone over the bars.

I disagree. Check the up and down votes on posts pertaining to the necessity of e-start. There are plenty of people who couldn't care less and actually don't want to deal with dead batteries.

Amen...I was 55 minutes into a mud race Sunday. Put it down killed it and thought I was never going to get it back up let alone have the energy to kick start it. When you’re racing against other bikes with e start it’s a big deal.

Anybody have any early updates on how good the KX250 is for 2020? I always loved this chassis but thought the Kawi KX250 motor sucked. Might be a great combination for 2020. Anyone have some early info?
