Is this a real question?

I can't imagine a 9 y.o. big enough for that, especially as a first bike.

That bike is intended for teenagers with riding experience and smaller adults.

I’d lean more towards a kx65 if wanting a race bike. But being a first bike maybe even a klx110. My buddies boy has been riding for 3 seasons now (not competitively) he’s 8 Going on 9 soon and of average height. He rides his 110 well coming off a crf50. Would transition nice to a 65 Pretty sure they have similar seat heights but they just play ride so he isn’t too crazy about race bikes....yet

85cc around Age 12. (some are ready for 85’s by 9-11 but have also been riding since they were 4) Big wheels and super minis as they progress on the 85’s

A kx100 for a 9 year old’s first bike will not end well.

My oldest is 13 - 6’2” 224lbs. I wouldn’t put him on a kx100 - maybe a 140 or big wheel 85 as his first motocross bike. Slow your roll dad. If these things had wings they’d fly.

First bike? How big is the kid? It can be a good bike depending on answers to those. If he's a newbie and under 5' forget it. If he's got some real seat time on 65s and is 5'+ and 90 lbs, it's a great bike. Add a Steahly heavy flywheel weight and (maybe) a Rekluse and it's solid for both moto and trails. The 100 isn't as peaky as the 85 (we've had both) but it's also not an XR80. Really depends on the kid.

Thanks I guess I was getting ahead of the learning curve...he’s under 5’ or just under
Looks like a great fun bike for myself 😎
But don’t think the wife would go for that !!
I’ll look for a 110 or similar...
Thanks y’all!!

At 9 years old, it is possible to go to a small wheel 85 if he is tall and has quite a few years of riding experience. Even with that, a bit of work on the bike at the beginning makes it easier (slightly softer set up, heavier flywell, and plastic in the carb to limit the power the 1st month)

Without experience, that will end in unexpected crashes that may scare him for good. A 110 or similar as advised should be much better, then if he rides a lot, like 2 or 3 times a week, and "has it", in 1 year he can go straight to the 85 small wheel. A 100 with big wheels? Maybe not before 12 if he has already a lot of experience.

My first bike was a kx80 (kx85 nowadays) when I was 9. I was a bit small at first but grew into it quick. 100 might be a tad big especially for a first bike, don’t want to spook him

I too started on a kx80 at 9. Was a bit much at first, but I only looped it out once.
My dad used to get on it and whip his buddy's in a drag race down our driveway , them always on his cr250. He won 10 bucks quite a few times that way. Later , at my wedding, he pulled out my boys two yz85s and proceeded to beat all challengers in some very competitive drag races in my field. Good times. If you want him to race, start him on a race bike IMHO. He will be a more formidable riding buddy if you do.

My son's 2nd bike was a KX100. He was 14 and had been riding a CRF-150 F all summer. He did good on the KX 100, but as his FIRST bike? Nope. I had a '16 KX250F at the time and he'd smoke me in a 1/2 mile drag race from the house to our track. Fast.
