I just got my new bike and noticed the right air box side is blocked and not cut out like other bikes I saw on showroom floors.

Any idea why?

Does this have any impact on performance?

Should I cut the side or leave it as is?

The 16-18 450 had the double cut out, but the 250 always only had the left side open. I believe you can cut it out with a dremel but I don’t know if there is any performance to be had... the cut outs are as big as a barn door!

It’s not something inside the air box that you could just remove? It’s for sure a part of the entire air box?

Ditto on this. Have you taken it apart yet? It doesn't even looked like its attached to the side plate.

Certain markets, I believe Australia ? Maybe Canada? Receive the closed right side airbox on the 2020 while the US models have both sides open. 17-19 had the right side closed in all markets.

This. I remember when the 2017 CRF450 came out people in Europe all had closed air boxes just like this KX. I’ve never seen any bikes in the US with it though.

I stand corrected... as stated above they must have changed it for 20... strange!

EU models have closed airboxes on one side. I just took a hot blade and cut a hole in it. The number board covers it anyway so you don't have to be too neat.

Could be an error on the production line or they diverted more bikes to USA. Kawi EU has no bikes left so would make sense

Correct.

I had a 17 and have an 18 now. Cut out both of mine and it does make it noticeably louder and does change the "snap"
