I’m getting a new bike within the next couple of days and I’ve decided to get a 125 the dealership I’m at has a 2019 yz125 or 2019 sx125 I’ve never had much 2 stroke experience and want a bike that I can ride hard but also have a great bottom to mid with NO mods which one should I get? I’m hopping off a crf150rb so I never really rode a 125 or a 2 stroke so which should I get and what would be best for me? Thanks

Me personally I would go with the YZ. Proven bike even though it is getting long in the tooth.

Also the YZ wins in reliability. KTM has better power in stock trim.

the ktm is more advanced and faster stock
the yz 125 is a more basic 125 with a little less power

if the ktm is the same price then get it

Ask if they will put the YZ forks on the KTM.

We just went thru this with my 15 yr old who's been riding an '04 KX125 for the past year/half. We liked the Yamaha for its proven ability but in the end it's an old design. We got a '19 KTM 150 SX and that sucker is FAST. No small bore 125 has bottom end, but the KTM pulls pretty good and has a mean mid-range and killer top end.

First day on the track, I was riding as hard as I could on my RM 134 to keep him in _sight_ and he lapped me in 10 laps. I'm normally able to keep him within a straightaway at least. No more.

I would buy the Yamaha. Unless you have the bank or just want to buy new I would also suggest possibly finding a nice clean used one instead of buying new. With the money you will save buying used you can buy a lot of aftermarket parts, new gear, or whatever you want. I have a 2005 Yamaha YZ-125 that I bought used in 2005, the owner only rode it twice in a field for one hour breaking it in. He then got a DUI and needed money. I scored a killer deal, it was still brand new with all the warning decals. It has been the best motorcycle I have ever owned. It is fast, reliable, easy to maintain, parts are inexpensive, lots of aftermarket parts are available, and most of all it is a blast to ride amd will always keep you smiling when you ride it. That is my opinion.
