Looking for recommendations on pistons for my 19 kx450. Definitely going forged. What brands do you guys suggest.

JE has 12.5 or 13.5:1 or Wiseco has a really nice Racer Elite but it's 14:1

I have pro circuit in mine but only because they had a deal when I got it. I regret making it faster so I would stay with the stock compression ratio.

CP or JE. Pro circuit runs JE. MEK runs CP. CP is OEM in KTMs i believe. All top notch stuff. CP provides DLC coated wrist pins and a tool to make installing the pin clips super easy.

I have the pro circuit piston along with their full exhaust and my ECU flashed by TokyoMods. It works awesome, linear, more meat everywhere.

I just put a new top end in mine with 55 Hrs on it. I went with the CP Carrillo 13.5.1 MX3033. I also replaced the valve springs and timing chain. The chain had a visible kink in it. Here's a link to the CP Piston. https://www.ebay.com/itm/18-20-Kawasaki-KX450F-KX-450F-96mm-Stock-Bore-…
Getting ready to do mine at 50 hrs. Going with cp. Just can't decide on the 12.5 or 13.5. Should I be looking at doing springs when I am in there? Coming off two stokes my whole life the bike does see the rev limiter more than it should.

What’s your reason for moving away from the OE piston? If I recall, it has a pretty solid construction (pin area is boxed, crown is gusseted well) and a DLC coated wrist pin. Is OE known to break?

Just make sure you’re not stepping backwards in piston technology by going aftermarket. Some companies don’t coat their pins, so that’s a step back. ProX’s new US made pistons are the worst I’ve ever seen (I believe they’re made under the Wiseco roof as cheaply as possible), so steer clear of those.

Local builder who does alot of high hp builds and tuning recommended cp and je. More reading I have been doing cp seems to be a very top notch product.

CP Pistons does seem to be one of the better manufacturers. I had them make some custom pistons back in the day. They were very helpful and the pistons performed well. Looks like they’re still making a great product.

Regarding your previous question: In my experience, lower compression will feel like it revs more freely. Whenever I bump compression with stock cams I do some mild head porting to free up the top end. You end up with a stock feeling powerband but with more power everywhere.

Just my personal experience.

Thanks. I think I will be staying stock compression. Stuck a pro circuit ti6 exhaust on it and we dyno tuned it for the fuel I am using and seems to be more than enough power.

I would just do OEM if you are staying stock!

On a side note I am seeing people changing clutch plates out at 20hrs. I have had the rekluse radius cx setup in it from the beginning. At 50 hrs now. Should I be looking to refresh the plates? They look fine. Have only had to re adjust once so far and I am pretty hard on a clutch.

I have the Pro circuit piston in now which i think is 13.9:1 compression. I am going to replace it with a CP and install pro circuit cams. I would stick with PC, but it is out of stock. I am going to use the Vortex ECU with this refresh also.
