I'm having problems with my 19 and I'm considering the idea of cutting my losses now and getting away from it after I get it back from the shop. I don't have a big enough wallet to keep paying to fix the problem. Bike has 15 hours on it and I still owe on it. I understand I will be losing money but I'd rather do that and get a cheaper bike that's more reliable than have a $9000 paperweight in my garage. Anyone have a ballpark estimate of how much I'd get for it?

Valves? Transmission? Yamaha is certainly losing their “dependability” credit they used to once have.

I’d say 60-70% cheaper than retail. All depends on the condition and etc. Might be better off trading it and saving the tax on the new one. Either way shitty situation. I just went through with my 18 YZ450F. Had close to $6K in parts over 30 hours. Was a $20K+ investment (just to keep it running) that haunted me from day 1.

What is the problem with it? Just a though but maybe its time to think about a different shop rather than the bike.

Thats the road I can see myself going down and thats why I want out. Bike wouldn't start at 15 hours and I took it back to the dealer, they took it apart and there was so much carbon buildup from overfueling that the exhaust valves were stuck wide open. They didn't find why it was overfueling and they're not sure if I can reuse the same head (kinda sounds like bullshit to me) but the bill for all new head, new piston and rings would be $1600 altogether, apparently. Bike is in good condition other than that. The bike I would be looking to get is a 17 CRF250R, on sale for $5000. I'd rather have a cheap bike with an air fork rather than this turd.

Yup, we have had a lot of lemons from the area I’m from in Canada. The valves are absolute garbage in them. sorry to hear about your luck man! I went over to Honda as well too if that makes you feel any better.

Should take a look at the cylinder as well while you’re that far into it. Had some really weird marks on mine and had to be replaced. Depending on how long you rode it with it starting like a bastard a good chance the starter clutch is worn out too.

I know yours is a 19 250 and mine was a 18 450, but I went through hell with mine man and anytime I see someone on here having similar problems it’s painful to read.

I believe the shop said the cylinder and piston were fine, but it would be wise to throw a new piston in while in there. And yeah man I can't really find anyone that understands the frustration. Worked my dick off to get to the point of being "okay" with having a monthly payment on a brand new bike, and it wants to shit the bed. My first brand new one, by the way. Live and learn.

Do you live near some wheelie boys who can "help with your problem"?

So has anyone traded in an 18 recently, so that I can have a rough number of what to expect for my 19?

Were the valves bent? I would just have them vapor blast everything, reassemble with new gaskets, and keep on riding. I'm sure Yamaha will be coming out with a reflash. Has anyone tried leaning out the fuel in the tuning app with a wideband O2 sensor? The bottom block is 2000rpm and 10% throttle position, and is position adjustable! I've played with my 450fx and you can lean it out above stoichiometric at -3 above 40% throttle position... The dealership sounds like they are all about parts sales.

If that was a KTM, you’d have new stuff and they’d take care of it. Nobody beats their customer service.

My friend traded in his 17 YZ250F and got $3500.

With the amount of money you are going to loose, call Twisted Development. I’m sure they can get the head dialed. Throw a Vortex EcU with their mapping and be done with it.

Meh I don't think so, I have seen their customer service being both 10/10 and 0/10

As dumb as it may sound, I'd be relieved to get 4000 for it and have what I owe piled onto a cheaper bike and move on. Buying this bike was a mistake and has bit me in the ass. I'd like to get on a different bike.

Damn, I’d almost buy it from you for that and take my chances. 4K for the bike and where are you in the states?

If I was going to sell it instead of trade it in, I'd take around $6000.. bike will have new top end with all new head assembly after all of this. Located near St Louis MO.

Bike has so much carbon build up at 15 hours that the exhaust valves were stuck open and the head is fucked but the piston is fine? Can't find the source of the "over fuelling". Sounds like the problem is the mechanic to me.

A family in our local series bought a 19 for their son coming off an 85. The bike stalled at the line before practice the other week. Pulled the plug and it was BLACK as can be. Looked like it came out of a 2 stroke. I told them about the problems I read with this bike with the carbon build up. I suggested they let it go low on fuel and add a gallon or so of high octane race fuel and go run the piss out of it to hopefully help clear out some of the build up!

We are planning on buying a 20 YZ250F as soon as released, I am getting a little worried about that decision.

Please keep us posted, good luck!
