I think that they have no control over track conditions such as rocks and square edges. I think that 10% discount is pretty generous of them to give for something that isn't their fault.

apparently its a new compound they have used for these wheels you kinds got to put yourself into my position paying £7,000 for a new bike first ride out running the bike in cant afford to be splashing out £450 on a wheel after just buying it brand new

What did you hit? Are you sure the tires were properly inflated? I think they come stock with Bridgestones, so assuming you changed tires on a brand new bike before the first ride, I’d be very happy that they offered you a 10% discount.

Don’t mean to dis you at all but I think you are over reacting just a bit. It’s an off road racing machine. This stuff happens.

It sucks no doubt, but over the years I think I’ve had maybe 2 or 3 bikes that the stock wheels lasted any reasonable amount of time. If you want something bulletproof most times you’ve got to buy a high end aftermarket set. Even then, shit can go wrong.

i changed no tires they came with those Pirelli tires and yes they were inflated correct im not sure what i even hit tbh the track was smooth like i said it was 1st session on the bike like you said its a offroad machine so those wheels are designed to cope with hard conditions

Stock "excel" rims are not the excel rims you buy aftermarket. They're made to an OEM price point and they slap an excel sticker on there to make you feel good.

Load of shit mate I'd be annoyed just like you especially after 1 hour. We pay stupid money for bikes here in the UK over a grand more than what they cost overseas so you're right to be annoyed. I understand these things happen I did it on mine but after 1 session what a joke. Have you tried contacting the dealer you bought it from?

I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not too sure.

I can, and I've been there. $9780 otd for my 14 YZ450 and the third ride, not even 1.5 hours on the bike, I over jumped a tabletop and the front slapped down pretty hard. Put a huge flat spot in my front wheel. Ya, I was super bummed about it, but that was my fault, not Yamaha's. I rode it like that for a 1.5 years until I got a Tusk kit for Christmas.

I agree it is a huge bummer, especially when spending so much on a bike, but for me it's part of the wear and tear even when new. Now a frame braking, motor blowing up, electrical problem, etc that soon is a different story.

I prepped a brand new ‘19 for a friend and found the spokes too loose for my liking.

This is true. I had a long conversation with Colin at FasterUSA about this. I guess a "true" Takasago rim has the excel logo printed twice on each side of the rim (180 degrees out from eachother).

The Dirt Stars we get on the Husky's are the same story. Just a cheaper, softer rim with the Dirt Star logo on them.

My advice would be to have them relaced with A60s or "real" Takasago rims.

You’ve been correct in this thread: stuff happens and those blue Yamaha rims certainly aren’t as bad as a lot of other stock rims.

I ripped a start from Egypt and I was happy about that.

We all pay the price for new bikes and sometimes we crash or hit stuff on the track and things bend or break. yep it sucks . If it happens with unusually high numbers of new YZs then you might have something to bitch about but by then Yamaha would have addressed the issue. My nephew has quite a few hours on his 2019 and he rides IMI which is hard packed square edge track and he has had no wheel problems. Life aint fair sometimes. blush

Go out and buy a ktm. Take your picture. Write them a nice letter.....if you’re feelin salty.

But grand scheme of things....it’s a rim bruh. The engine is solid.

My 18 YZ125 comes with D.I.D rims and the rear has a slight bulge, not as bad as yours though.

1 Bar is the proper pressure for that tire and would’ve helped limit the damage to the rim.

I would try to contact Yamaha directly yourself or try another dealer. IDK how it is there, but in the US... Yamaha automatically covers most parts under $600 if it is still under warranty without question. Wish you were a US customer so i could help you better!!!

I'm currently on a 2018 YZ450 and have even gotten a few flats and im a bigger guy that rides aggressive and my rims are as straight as can be.

twist wrist and go...

This has happened to me aswell on my 2018 yz250f. 20 minutes riding and my rear wheel has a dent thats about 6-7cm and nearly flat.... But still super happy with the bike itself.

The same situation happened to my “aftermarket” blue excel rim. My second ride on them I came up short on an uphill triple and the front wheel taco’d. Was super disappointing to spend $1400 on a wheelset from Dubya and have to pay more to replace one after just two rides.

This is 100% operator fault. We have 5 YZs right now, my son is a local A rider and none of our rims look like this. I'd be happy with the 10% discount and walk off like you stole something cause you did, 10% of Yamaha profit.

14.5038 PSI actually....

A half pound would not have saved that rim. Sucks man, that is pretty impressive that the tire did not go flat.
